| Weight Okay I just got a e-mail from the breeder and she says that the puppies weigh around 12 to 14 ounces. They were born on March 1st. How big do you think that they will get? Is this a normal size for puppies. Sorry i am full of questions, please help me out. Thanks

| hmmm, did she tell you how much the parents weigh? They are less than a month old so it's hard to say. If I were to make a WILD GUESS I would say maybe between 6-8 lbs.(that is just a wild guess nithing more)

| i used to hear that you can usually judge from the size of the parents, and i've also heard that you can judge from the size of the father BUT i read on a YorkieTalk thread not too long ago that the GENETICS from up to 10 GENERATIONS BACK can have a determining factor in a yorkies appearance . . . http://yorkietalk.com/forums/showthr...ht=generations "I agree with CC's post...even tho the parents are silky coated the puppies might not be. I was told that our yorkie brings genetical information from at least 10 generations before...so even tho i do believe the parents can give you an idea of what the puppy will look like...it is not a rule!" Babbie if the 10 generation genetics rule applies than i guess you can't really tell exactly what size your yorkie will be until they are fully grown??!??

| 12-14 ounces at 3 weeks old seems pretty big to me. But, I'm not a breeder so don't take my word for it! I know we have several on the board so perhaps one of them can answer this for you. I know that when I got Gracie, she was 16 oz. and 9 weeks old!

| Maybe this will give u an idea, Chelsey will be 16 weeks tomorrow and she weighs 14 ounces.... to be honest i dont know much about weight and size, i have read about it, but it doesnt keep me busy... ive had them in 3 different sizes in the past, 2 girls and 1 boy and the boy was the smallest, i dont use them for show or anything, i could love a 15 pounder as much as a 1 pounder as long as the baby is healthy huh

| I some times think it is a guessing game. I went to a breeders house last weekend and the mother had 5 puppies, two females that were tiny 6 oz at 3 wks and one female and 2 males that were about 12 oz at 3 wks. The mom was about 6lbs and dad about 3 1/2lbs. The breeder said that every once in a while she will through smaller puppies. the smaller puppies she said should be around 3-4 lbs. When I look for a puppy I just go for the one I think is the cutes. I think any size yorkie is cute.........Cindy |

| Hard to say---genetics play a HUGE role and mom and dad's size are not the only factors. The bloodlines determine size. The size they are now sounds healthy. You shouldn't have to worry about hypoglatic pups when they eat well as pups. They will slim down after they are weaned. I have a pup that's almost 8 weeks and he's full of tiny lines but he's 1 pound. He is losing weight now but he had gotten chubby because he was an only child. AND loved to eat. He should be 3-4 pounds as an adult. I really don't care though as long as he's healthy--that should be your only concern. |

| Yeah--my females mom was 5 pounds and dad was 4. She's 4 pounds full grown. She's healthy. I didn't get the runt but she was the next in size. Her brother was a fatty but I bet he's standard size. You just never know until they stop gaining. (some just never stop )LOL |

| i think you're right Chelsey... I totally agree with you. My dogs aren't going to be tinies... they are both 7 months old now...brother and sister...Ceasar is 5lbs while Cleo is 4.5 lbs. And who knows they could still grow... but my husband and I love them to death...I used to have big dogs...Dobies...I never thought I would get to love small breeds like them but the moment I saw them I totally fell in love with them... |

| well thanks... they are really so adorable...I think all yorkies are...my husband and I try our very best not to spoil them...we treat them as our own kids... so we discipline them like they are kids...we have rules that they need to follow...and they are behaving... most of the time... |
