My chloe is small with thin hair so I have to use small clips in her hair. So far my favorite are these tiny claw type hair clips (Ive attached a pic). As for the barrettes, if you can put a little pony tail in her hair then the rhinestone hairclips work better if you clip them into the hair underneath the pontail instead of clipping them over the ponytail.
