| To anyone who has wondered why my name is the porkieyorkie.... I ended up borrowing the name from my mother, because that is what she calls her dogs, who happen to be the sons of my dog Princeton...and no, I was not the breeder....I adopted Princeton from the breeder. I had the "pleasure" of babysitting my moms dogs in September while her and my step father went on vacation, so I was able to get a few pictures of her boys. Rambo, is the smallest one and is the first picture.I call him Princeton's mini me because he looks the most like Princeton. He is supposed to weigh 3 lbs, 4 lbs max but weighs 8. He can fit Princeton's buddy belt, yet is half the size of Princeton. His tongue often sticks out because it is too big for his mouth. Rocky is the other one and he is a solid 14 lbs....and probably should weigh between 8 and 9 lbs. He has less physical problems than Rambo because he is on the larger size for yorkies, but none the less, he is still obese. Rambo is so fat that you can't even tell if he's peeing or not.....somewhat humorous, but when you hear about all of the health problems associated with his weight, you quickly wish he could get some pounds off. He has back problems, an enlarged heart and a collapsed trachea to boot. The collapsed trachea was not caused by wearing a collar. The vet says it's genetic and I suspect his enlarged heart and weight issues aren't helping the problem either. He is on prednisone for his back and allergies, which makes it extra hard to loose weight....and on top of that, like many yorkies, he is a picky eater. Veggies....forget it. Dog food.....even canned....please?!? He does nibble on Royal Canine here and there but he prefers chicken and when he gets sick of that,he eats steak. My mom has spoiled them to the point where there is no "high value" food for them. While I somewhat blame her for them becoming fat, I also understand what motivated her to feed them like she did. Rambo gets hypoglycemic and has been hospitalized for it....so the fear of loosing him due to not eating drove her to feed him whatever he would eat. He couldn't exercise because of his heart and his back....and now his trachea. Anyways, thought I would finallly share the pictures of the "porkie yokies." I've never seen yorkies as obese as them.......but you can't help but fall in love with them when you meet them. Last edited by theporkieyorkie; 10-14-2014 at 05:53 PM. |

| Oh! pot-bellied Yorkies! (I can say that because I live with a pot-bellied house pig - so, no offense meant!) That said, I can certainly understand your frustration. They are adorable, but, wow, I want to help put them on a diet/safe exercise program. Although, according to my DD, I am not allowed to say anything since I have a couple here that she says I cannot blame on a winter coat any more. Oops. They really are cute, though. |

| My girlfriend called me in a panic today about her chi. She had put him on the bed and he had jumped off and hurt himself. She has had stairs since he was a puppy but he refuses to use them. He should be around 11 lbs and is 18 lbs. Fittingly, His name is "Biggie." He is feeling better but I told her to start adding green beans to his diet. My moms dogs won't touch green beans, but my girlfriends dogs will eat anything. Biggie is already on "fat dog" food but hasn't lost weight. She is scared to walk her dogs in her neighborhood by herself, especially since Biggie was attacked by a loose boxer this summer...in his own yard, none the less. She was getting ready to walk them and had opened the gate and the boxer rushed over. Luckily she had biggie on a leash so he didn't sustain worse injuries than he had. His obesity might have done him a favor and offered him extra protection from the boxer...as it had a hard time fitting it's mouth around biggie. The police of course did NOTHING. In fact their comment was "well the lady apologized and she seems very nice." On top of green beans, I suggested a tread mill as an alternate solution to going outside for walks. If anyone has any suggestions of how to get your dog used to walking on a treadmill, feel free share them!! I've given my mom the same suggestion since a treadmill is collecting dust in her spare room...but she is convinced they are too large to walk any farther than 10 feet out the door to use the bathroom. I wans't even allowed to walk them around the block. They sure are cute "little" guys though!! |

| They are just adorable, I have seen far worse, so over weight you couldn't tell what the breed was. I agree weight with these wee ones are a health issue, I see "solid" pups not "fat" pups.
