| My little baby! Is she more yorkie or bichon? Hello all, I'm new to this board but have been scouring it for the past two weeks that i've had my new little baby. Her name is Buttons and i'm in love, her mother is a 9.5 lb. yorkie bichon mix and her father is a 5 lb. pure bred yorkie. She's currently 2.7 lbs at 10 weeks and 5 days. Well first things first what do you think she looks more bichon or yorkie? Since she's mixed I know there's really no telling but, is the whole 12 weeks double the weight still fairly accurate with mixed breeds? I'm just pretty much an overall new dog owner and need opinions on the things i'm doing. If i'm doing something wrong let me know because I want my little Buttons to have the best and healthiest life possible. My mother and I first got Buttons at 8 weeks and I think she's pretty adjusted, i'm not sure if she thinks she runs the house but, she's already spoiled. She likes to bite when playing (how do I get her out of this?), she also gets her daily zoomies which is hilarious, and it sounds like she's fighting a demon under our couch .She doesn't have all her shots yet and we're still weighing our options between banfield hospital, a private vet, or the spca's vaccine clinic. What's your opinion, I need to convince my mother that a private vet is best. She's healthy overall besides constant ear itching from ear mites . I believe she's losing hair behind the ears but the banfield vet says it may just be the oil on our hands. For treatment the vet at the spca gave us revolution and the vet at banfield recommended that we do her treatments every 2 weeks, has anyone else been told this and used revolution with successful results? She eats 5/8 cups of food per day I started her out with nutro naturals and quickly changed her diet because I read that the brand was killing yorkies at a point. I didn't know about the gradual switching of food but her poops were still firm. Now she's currently eating Innova puppy food, I personally hate it because she won't really eat until the end of the day , and we have to use a dicer because the kibbles are to big. She enjoys the wellness puppy snacks so I plan to gradually switch her to wellness puppy toy breed, because of the kibble size and she basically picks out the wellness pieces that we're gradually adding to the Innova. She knows how to sit on command, sometimes she comes sometimes she ignores me, but if I tell her to stop she listens, she almost has fetching and giving the ball back down because before she would bite me if I went near her ball. I'm not sure if she has allergies just yet so I didn't see the need in getting the wellness puppy grain free, plus the kibbles are just as big as innova do they make wellness grain free toy breed for puppies? We're exercise pen training her because we'll be gone longer than 4 hours since the semester is starting and my mother works 8 hours. I thought she was potty trained but sometimes she just goes on the floor. We use pee pads since she doesn't have all her shots and can't go out, should we only leave pee pads in her play pen and not on the floor so she can learn to never pee on our carpet? When she's older we plan on keeping the pads when we're not home and having her go outside as well, has anyone had success with both methods? Last but not least, because I know i've already typed a lot. How do you deal with tangles on legs she won't let me brush her legs AT ALL? We didn't realize how tangled her fur was near the skin on her legs before we gave her a bath since the fur on her head and neck is more straight like a yorkie. Any recommendations for shampoos and conditioners? LASTLY, tear stains is it normal since she's a pup? We switched started her out with purified bottle water and had to use tap when we ran out that's when the stains started, so she's back on purified is that fine? I also just wipe her eyes everyday with warm water and Martha Stewart's tear stain remover, is this safe? If you read all this and feel like replying i'd be so grateful thanks SOOOO MUCH. |

| Your pup is adorable. Not sure if the double at 12 weeks would work since Bichon are a little larger dogs and may follow a different growth pattern. Sounds like you are off to a good start with training. Potty training takes time. I started right away with outdoor training, which I think is easier, although come winter I'm going to be wishing she was pee pad trained It will take some time to get them used to brushing. Lexi HATED it and I thought I would never see the day she would let me brush her, but the day did come.... months later! For the bad tangles I just cut them out. It might look funny in some spots, but it will grow back and I never have any trouble with tangle anymore. Good luck! |

Yorkie Yakker | Our little Bella, now almost 4 months, was trained on newspaper, but recently she has decided to go outside on the balcony (with supervision) on her own. Now when we're in the living area, we keep the balcony door open and she would rather go there than on the newspaper... Your little one is just to cute for words, enjoy every moment!

| Buttons is absolutely adorable. With the mix of colors, she looks like a Parti Yorkie. She has the sweetest little face.

| your little pup is absolutely adorable, a good example of why some people prefer a mix, to me she looks more like a bichon than a traditional yorkie, first because she has no yorkie color markings and second because she seems more fluffy and rolly polly, which is a look I love. I myself have a yorkie pom mix, who looks almost nothing like a pom, just more like a fluffier yorkie with a huge tail. I am so happy to have a mix that in the future if I ever have to get a new dog will opt for a yorkie mix again.

| come to think of it I just saw a yorkie bichon mix, this pup was 10 and still looked like a puppy, he was a darling and a sandy crème and if I recall correctly a solid color. he was about 8 lbs, which is about what Buttons might wind up being

| Thank you, she really does look like a parti yorkie I just looked them up. They're so cute ! One of her siblings had the brown and black spottings just like the parti. Buttons ears are starting to be brown at the roots. |

| Your baby really does look just like a yorkie. 8 lbs would be perfect I still want her to be a lap dog but large enough to play with medium size dogs. |

| She looks like a parti to me......cute as can be though! As far as the revolution every two weeks....why did he feel that was safe to do? My boss would every once in a while with an allergic dog recommend 3-3 1/2 weeks for the first two doses.....but I would be very careful....any flea or heartworm more than recommended is dangerous. Our kittens are on revolution (I have one for winnie but havent put it on yet) and I could see dead fleas on her white hair about an hour after I put it on her.....it works pretty well if she is flea allergic should help a lot. Our older girl chloe has severe flea allergies .... we have her on trifexis but will be switching to revolution next month. However the trifexis did clear her allergies in just one dose andby second month her skin was healed and her hair grew back . As for food -- Winnie is on blue buffalo toy puppy right now.....personally I dont agree with going grain free right from the start as sometimes it creates allergies .... thats just my opinion. But Winnie absolutely loves the blue! They r tiny and she eats like a hog. The bag recommends a 1/4 cup so I split that into three meals for her. Sometimes she eats a whole serving in a day and sometimes she will eat just a little more or a little less. I hope this helps a little bit!!!! |

| You are right, she sure does, and both are just precious. Makes me want another puppy, so I'd better quit looking.

| Welcome to YT, Congrats on your new baby girl.your lil Buttons is absolutely beautiful, she looks like a parti yorkie to me. Such a sweet lil face, sounds as if she has some yorkie traits, zooming around the house, of the 4 yorkie's I raised as 8 weeks old puppies, none of them fought sofa demons, must be a Maltese thing lol, she sounds so darn cute. Sorry I can't suggest on the food, it's been years since I had a puppy and so many new dog foods are on the market today.
