Completely upset 2 Attachment(s) Well I know there are mothers among the group so I'm sure you will understand my frustration with this story...I'll try not to be long winded with this but.....I go out of town and leave my darling pepper with my 19 year old son......well long story short....without my permission tried to do a "home groom" and completely mutilated my dog! in an attempt to fix it he took her to our local groomers to urgently get her to fix it...well she was too far gone and the only thing she could do was to TAKE IT ALL OFF!!!!! yes you heard me correct...she had to completely remove most of her long flowing coat!!!!!!! Does anyone know how long it would take to grow this back???? I'm so upset I cannot even look at my son!!!:mad: |

Awww it looks cute. It will take a while but it will grow back!! |
It will be a while before she has a long coat but she will have a cute puppy cut in a few weeks. In the meantime give her lots of love, these dogs know when we are upset and she may think she did something wrong. She has a beautiful face and coloring. Post photos every month so we can all see the change. PS. At least it's summer and her new do will keep her cooler. |
Pepper is beautiful. I would probably buy a few t-shirts and dresses for her so that she is not too chilled in air conditioning. |
I'm sure your son is feeling terrible. Your little one is still adorable. Time to step back and let the bad energy flow away and take some time before you talk with you son. Remember, his heart was in a good place but his scissors didn't cooperate. |
I'm sure it will be grown back by your parole date. ;) Yes, I has 2 grown sons and an 18 yr old daughter so believe me I know....... |
Thanks everyone......you all are right......I was just SHOCKED and upset that he would try to do such a thing. Yes she is still my little "peppie poo" and i will love her regardless....its just so short i didn't know how long it would take to get her back to normal.......I doubt he will do this again as he saw how sad i was after i saw it.........My precious baby has no clue whats going on and I now give her a cuddly blanket when she goes into her crate. If this is the worst thing my 19 year old has done so far....I guess i can deal with it....could have been worse, lol...thank you all for making me feel a bit better about this whole fiasco! |
Oh yeah! Yes once a month I will post a picture of her as she progresses back to normal.....or as close to normal that she can get, lol |

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! This is halarious!!!!!!!! I LOVE it!!!!!!!! After catching my breath and stopping laughing about the parole thing above, I need to say, it is not as bad as it looks to YOU!!! It is quite a shock from what you left, but it will grow back.....it is summer so it will be an adorable beach cut....also, look at that beautiful little girl!!! She is adorable! She is beautiful! You can hid a whole lot of faults under all that long hair, but when you put these girls in "bikinis" so to speak, there is no hiding faults......and while she may not be show dog quality to you, she is looking pretty darn cute! I keep all mine shaved down like this....it is so much cooler during our 96* - 110* summer temps. It will grow back.....some of mine need to be shaved every 3 months, some can go longer. Now, that is not floor length hair....it will take probably 8 - 12 months for her hair to sweep the floor again.....but she is adorable! Try to look at the positive angles to get you through this.....and of course, son paid the grooming bill, correct? Out of his own money, not on YOUR card......I found the quickest way to get MY son to pay attention to what I was saying or giving instructions, was to make him pay to correct mistakes he makes, if he made the mistakes because he did not follow instructions or didn't use his common sense! |
Your pup looks pretty damn cute in the short cut! I like it. |
She's a cutie with or without hair! And just think how much easier it will be to take care of. :) |
My ZoE has extremely slow growing hair. She's three years old, and I finally gave up on her growing the beautiful floor length yorkie coat that I love, so I trimmed her. Then it just looked a shaggy mess, so I buzzed her! I was surprised about four weeks later, when I was giving her her weekly bath, to notice how quickly it had grown, so I buzzed her again. My point is, while it seems to take forever to add additional length to a long coat, it goes from basically nothing to quite a bit of short hair, rather quickly. :) |
lil pepper has a beautiful face that you can see when shaved, She's just an all around beautiful lil girl. I would have had a stroke to have left her looking like she was ready for the show ring, come home to find her ready for the beach, you poor thing. When I first adopted my lil Cody he was shaved to the skin, with in 3 weeks a lot of hair grew back, you'll see, in a few weeks she'll look like a lil teddy bear. She is truly beautiful with or without her full coat. |

I know you're (were) upset and all but like many here, I think she looks cute! But I prefer puppy cuts so... I'm amazed at the color difference... I don't think I'd say it's the same dog. |
She looks cute. . . Just make sure you use sunscreen on her when outside so she doesn't burn |
Wow--what a shock to you and to your sweet pup! She is absolutely adorable both fluffy and with the short 'do, but I'd definitely have some t-shirts, dresses, or pj's in her size around in case air conditioning might give her a chill while she adjusts. My Piper turned one today and although I've never cut her hair, I've recently considered giving her a puppy cut. I'm going to be anxious to see the progress as Pepper's shiny new coat grows in. Good luck and enjoy the tangle-free days while you can! :D |
She looks adorable both ways. Be thankful it was just a haircut and not a lost dog or something like that. |
Oh no! I know exactly how you feel.... I kept having to remind myself it was only hair and it would grow back...and that was most important was that he was healthy.... |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks again everyone, and Yes your correct it could have been worse, she could have been hurt, lost, etc....so I am thankful it was just hair and that (eventually) it will return. I never thought about sunscreen!!! omg!!!! thank you for that. and I plan on getting a few sweaters, and t-shirts for her because I did notice she is shivering sometimes. I will like I said before post progression pictures of her and her coat was a tiny bit lighter than her before pic, I took that pic a few months back and her coat had changed slightly from that picture. Here is a pic we took in May right before her birthday this is what her coat looked like when he cut it! She's fully grown now but her coat has continued to change....I'm sure the darker coat that she had before this nonsense is a thing of the past and will not return :-( but still....at least I still have my baby....gotta find the happy to this otherwise ridiculous situation |
Well i think she looks beautiful either way! It could have been worse. And someone said to make sure your son pays for the groom, i agree he should. She still looks adorable now :-) Keep us posted! |
she looks beautiful but I would've been so upset also! I understand what you mean my husband did his own groom to keylo and thankfully just messed up her face. maybe also think about applying sunblock if she is outside for periods of time. they have pet sunblock or baby sunblock (my vet ok'd both) that will help keep her from being sun brunt or worse skin cancer as they are more prone with shorter hair from what I have read. I am going on vaca in august and my 19 year old daughter is watching mine please don;t have your son call her with grooming instructions. lol |

I really needed that laugh, lol...thank you....LOL!!! I will ensure he DOES NOT provide any type of grooming advice to anyone! lol.... OMG! your hubby tried it too! yes thank goodness it was only the face, I don't even attempt to cut pepper, ever for this exact reason.....I'm not skilled to do it so I leave it alone.....lol and yes he did pay a whopping $50 to have her shaved! which he should have...next time he'll think twice about doing that because he saw how upset I was about the whole situation. I hope you have the best trip next month and I promise I will be posting progression photos of pepper as her coat tries to return to normal....and Yes someone else told me about the sunscreen and I will absolutely do that......I guess the only thing to do now is laugh because what's done is done....:animal36 |

Thank you :-) and your right....something far worse could have happened to her so I think i'm getting over it....finally, lol |

With a face like that, she could sport any cut. She is too cute! It will grow out before you know it. It took about 4 months for my Gus's hair to completely grow out after being shaved off. |

She is such a beauty either way but I understand how you must feel. Took our little guy for his first trim and the lady did not listen AT ALL. Ask to leave his ears and face and just a little trim. Let me tell you I almost cried for 2 days....4 weeks later and his hair is even longer then it was. At least she's safe and healthy. She just wants your love and maybe cuddles/warmth. It will grow back sooner then you think!!! |
