Buddy's Journal I am going to use this thread to post pictures and updates on Buddy, and our journey of having our very first yorkie. I shall call it "Buddy's journal"! We got Buddy last night, but today is his first day at home! He is a 12 week old yorkshire terrier. Buddy is a very very sweet, calm baby. He seems to really love our pit bull, DeeOhJee, as DeeOhJee loves him too. ^.^ He is a little confused about the cats though, because the cats aren't too sure what to think of him. Today my mom went out and got Buddy a cute blue collar and leash, crate blanket, toys, and wellness CORE puppy food. He is currently using a cat carrier as his crate until his crate comes in the mail. We are ordering the crate through petco because its on a great sale! Original price: $80, on sale for $30 online only! Petco Classic 1-Door Dog Crates - Wire Dog Crates and Collapsible Dog Crates from petco.com here are the pictures below: 1. http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/...pse6f3e21d.jpg 2. http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0d5ebad3.jpg 3. http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/...ps293b5b81.jpg 4. http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/...ps04c9d071.jpg 5. http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/...psde35e20e.jpg 6. http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/...psaa488fae.jpg |
holy size difference!! did you change his name..from dalton? lol just one thing you may want to put him in a harness instead of a collar when walking. he is so cute and im so glad they are getting along well. |

I asked my parents to get a harness because I find it easier to control the dog and not having to worry about him slipping out, but for some reason my dad wanted him to have a collar, and told my mom to buy a collar. >.< Yes, my little sisters woke up this morning and saw him for the first time and said "Lets name him Buddy!" Although he was already named Dalton, they let them change it to Buddy. |
Buddy is definitely a cutie! There definitely is a size difference... |
Oh my Buddy is sooooo cute and DeeOhJee is too! Georgie's BFF and sister was a 75lb Boxer and they loved each other to pieces:) Coco was the sweetest girl ever! I would also recommend a harness. I know you said your Mom bought him a collar but the harness is much safer so you don't pull on his little neck muscles. We had Coco (our Boxer) for 6 years before Georgie came along and always used a collar but with Georgie we got a harness and it worked better and was safer. I look forward to more pictures of Buddy and DeeOhJee:D |
He's darling!!! Remember to watch out for coyotes and hawks. Never leave his side when you or any one else is outside with him. Definitely get a harness instead of a collar. Tell dad yorkies have very delicate trachea's. Have fun with your new baby! |
oh buddy is adorable. your pit bull is gorgeous too. they look pretty happy together. |
Thanks guys! I wil probably buy a harness next time I get money. My grandma has a boxer as well, and DeeOhJee is 75 lbs too :) No worries, I dont leave either of the dogs out unattended ^.^ |
Oh, Buddy is a little charmer. He's going to be lots of fun and you'll always be laughing. Your pittie is precious - such a beautiful animal.(Sigh, wish wish wish I could have one.) Need to see those kitties, too, though. Can't wait to hear how Buddy is doing as he grows up. They do such cute things as babies learning life's ways. |

They are both nice looking dogs. Good luck. The cats will do what they want in their own time. lol but it will be ok. |
Buddy is adorable! I see you live in Florida too. I live in Jacksonville, Florida. Are you anywhere near me? |
Awww they look so cute together! |
Thanks everyone! I am actually not too far from west palm beach. ;P On Buddy's first night, he peed on himself in the crate. Last night he had no accidents. I'm trying to get him to understand that he should go potty in the grass, when I take them outside, he just follows me or follows DeeOhJee. Some very helpful people told me the other day to not have him go to the groomer at his age but my parents took him anyways. He looks cute but I miss his fuzzy coat! Dx http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/...525FCF64CD.jpg I'm also trying to find a treat that he likes. He doesn't like beggin strips chopped up, but my other dog goes gaga for them. |
Geez, Buddy looks grown up already! I'm surprised the groomer let him come into her shop. Usually they have to have proof that they are up to date on their shots. I really hope he doesn't get sick. |

I have to agree! I am suprised the Groomer didn't ask about shots, because he is so young. Buddy is still a doll though. He will learn to go to the bathroom outside, if you keep doing it. It might take him awhile because he is so young. Maybe he was paper trained? |
Today was the first time my mom walked Buddy and she said shes going to buy him a harness, because the collar is annoying. xD Also I told her that they have sensative trachias (sorry I probably mispelled that horrible). I so badly wanted to say I told you so :p |
He is starting to go potty outside now! I think he learned from his big brother LOL :D |

Buddy's ears have been standing well but today one of his ears is floppy As far as I'm aware nothing happened to it should I be worried? |
Nope from what I understand they can stand up and then be floppy at such a young age. There are different threads on here to help them stand up. I have to be honest thought I have seen them stand and flop and gosh floppy ears are soooooo stinkin cute!!!!! |

Buddy wasn't eating much of the food his breeder had him on so we added a few pieces of his new food mixed into it and he went nuts for it! We're going to slowly transition so it doesn't upset his tummy. Wellness food has never been turned down by any of my dogs or cats! lol |
If your mom hasnt bought the harness yet, I'd tell her to get a no pull one-either an Easy walk, a freedom harness, or a sensation harness if he will fit into any of those. They really help teach the dog to walk appropriately on a leash. |

I have another question guys! lol I saw that it was reccomended to get scissor type nail clippers. I found these online, theyre cat claw trimmers. Would these be okay? Theyre cheaper, so if theyre the same thing, I figured we'd get these. Petco Cat Claw Nail Scissors at PETCO Or is it just better to get the dog ones? |
I would get dog clippers. Cat clippers are lighter weight |

Also, you are so right. Buddy is learning from big brother. I totally credit Mandie's brother with housebreaking her (and teaching her to sit lol). They watch and want to do what the other, older dogs do. ;) |
More pictures! LOL I am the queen of taking pictures so be prepared! :D Buddy is doing great. His crate came in the mail today. He barked when in the cat carrier at night, so hopefully the crate will be better for him. My mom went to a thrift store (I love this thrift store; its all donations and 100% of sales go to the local no kill animal shelter that I volunteer at) and found a harness and a small Kong toy for $1 each! The harness doesnt seem to fit right, the belly part is too small and the neck part is too big (and yes, we did put it on correctly! lol) so shes going to take him to the pet store and try them on. He really loves the kong toy too, hopefully it will help him go in the crate at night. Heres a picture of him laying in DeeOhJee's bed (do you think it's big enough? lol) but no, seriously. this bed is for like a german shepherd or a huge dog. http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/...7/buddy005.jpg In my room, I have a white stand by the window for the cats to sit on and watch the birds. There is a bean bag chair right next to it. So Buddy climbed up the bean bag chair, and barked at birds out the window. He also barked at nothing. xD http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/...7/buddy007.jpg |
