| Newbie!!! Need some help!! Hi everyone....my name is Tami and I am new here. I have a question for all the Yorkie experts out there. I bought my little girl Sadie when she was 12 weeks old and I was told that she was a purebred Yorkie (I have CKC papers and registered her too) but when I took her to the Vet they didn't think she was a Yorkie because she is all tan. So I put 2 pics in my album of Sadie so if anyone has a chance to take a look at them and let me know what you think. Anytime people see here they don't believe she is a Yorkie...since she is all tan and not the usually black and tan. So I think I may have paid for a purebred and got some sort of Yorkie mix. I didn't want to spend the money to do the DNA testing so I thought I would ask opinions on here. Not that it matters too much since I love her to pieces no matter what she is...but it would be nice to know. Thanks in advance for the help!! |

| I am by far no expert, but I want to say she may be mixed with something. She sure is a cutie though! I am sure others will be along shortly to give you a more expert opinion.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | While she is very very cute I do not think she is a pure yorkie. Maybe a maltese/yorkie mix? Did you get her from a breeder or a pet store?

| I got her from a breeder in NC. She showed me pics of her Mom & Dad and they were both Tan & Silver. She said that this was the only the second time that she had ever gotten a all tan Yorkie puppy. I just don't understand how she got CKC papers if they aren't purebred Yorkies. Don't breeders have to register and have DNA testing done on their dogs to be able to breed them? I really don't know anything about breeding or how all that works so I may be way off in my thinking. |

| No. If she was registered AKC they could enforce DNA testing if you had a question about the pedigree. CKC is used by breeders who don't necessarily have pure bred dogs, but want to offer some type of registry. Unfortunately, folks like yourself are duped into believing this guarantees they are getting a pure bred dog. As Mardelin stated, you could have a dog with a recessive gene that causes the solid color and she could still be pure bred. Most breeders will stop breeding dogs that produce these types of color faults, but since your breeder stated she had had another one it sounds like she isn't too concerned and is not trying to breed to the standard set by the YTCA. Just love her. As long as she is healthy, and you didn't pay extra for her "rare" coloring, you shouldn't bellyache over the details too much at this point.

Breeder shows you pic's of Mom & Dad...instead of physically showing you Mom & Dad. Well, I see you're resolved to love your lil' darling anyway...thank you!

| She is such a beautiful shade of tan/red. Rich, rich color and what a lovely litle face. Oh, that little girl is darling whatever breed she is. What has she got in her mouth - her little fuzzy toy? Just her sweet demeanor in that picture makes me want to grab her up and give her a big, big hug. I'll bet she is going to be a precious dog with that lovely coloring and her sweet, sweet face. Is she feisty or rather demure? I like that name Sadie. Keep us posted with more pictures, etc. I hope you did not have to pay a lot for her as I don't think she is 100% Yorkshire Terrier but just look at what you did get - a lovely girl. |

| She is just adorable. No matter if she is a purebred or not. I know you love her anyway. I know it's probably hard if you were told one thing and find out another. It's sad that people can't be honest. I'm sorry if you are disappointed. Just enjoy her... As long as she is happy and healthy that's what is most important.
