Have you done any health study on what happens as these dogs become whiter and whiter? It is also a sign of to much inbreeding and why they stopped trying for white yorkies after the turn of the century. You might want to pickup Genetics of the dog by Malcom B. Willis.

Hmmm, funny because these are the result of breeding dogs that are about as far apart genetically as you can get. You are repeating the same thing all the people against parti's say without anything to back them up. The never tried to breed white yorkies untill recently and they killed them as well as any other off color yorkie when they got them.

If you study the yorkie breeding practices of show breeders you will see that they have done extensive inbreeding in the traditional colors. Inbreeding was done to reduce the size of the offspring. Anytime you inbreed you are doubling the recessive genes. If one dog carries the the gene for gold and you breed it back to it's own offspring you might produce gold offspring. If you do the same with a dog carrying the gene for white you might produce white pups.

On the negative side if you have a dog carrying a gene for a defect and you inbreed you produce the defect. This is true for all colors of Yorkies.

I am fully aware as I have been very involved with the Biewers but do not think all breeders do extensive inbreeding...do your homework as inbreeding was not done to reduce the size of the dogs -wherever did you get this from? Liver Shunt is also a product of inbreeding..you also need to review your pedigree's to see how far removed are your dogs from each other.

Eventually the litters will get smaller and smaller until you will not have any more puppies if you continue to do this and not bring in new blood.

Ok, you obviously did not read what I wrote. I said show breeders of traditional colors do alot of inbreeding. I personally spent hundred of hours going over pedigrees to find dogs that were not closely related. To date I have never produced a yorkie that is close to all white by inbreeding two parti's. In fact every dog that I have got that was mostly white came from a traditional color mom.

All of my dogs live in my house and are treated as members of my family.

One more note for you. I see from your posts you seem to be against all breeding of dogs. This is a picture forum and is not the place for this discussion and not the place for you to attack me or anyone else who raises Yorkies that are non-standard colors.

I just want breeders to do their research and study health issues with these dogs. Just reading pedigree's does not answer your questions. Research I have done suggests that they felt there was no need to breed white yorkies because there was already a white toy breed, the west Highland White Terrier.

White is a color Gene. The Gene for white does not in itself cause defects. If this was the case using your information then all Westies, Maltese, and many other white breeds would have severe genetic problems, which they do not. This book does sound like an interesting read, but there are many other sources of information to consider as well.

Here is what AKC says on their website about determining the color and registering non-standard color dogs.

Can you help me determine what color my dog is?

There are two options. You can send scanned pictures of the dog and a scanned copy of the dog registration application for the dog in question attached to e-mail to awards@akc.org. Please allow several business days for a response. At least two 3 x 5 color photographs, providing close-up front and side views of the dog in a standing position, are required. The American Kennel Club’s policy is to review any litter that contains a member that possess a non-standard coat color for it’s breed.
