| Canon Rebel XS... pictures right out of the box! OK, beware, guys. You will probably be getting a lot of pictures now. Received my Canon Rebel XS in the mail today and these were the first shots I got from it, right out of the box.... I have *SO* much more learning to do. But I just wanted to share. You'll probably be getting even more pics tonight as I'm dog-sitting and bringing Jackson along! LOL.

| Brit, these pictures are GREAT! They're so clear it's amazing. Of course, it doesn't hurt that you have such a handsome little model! I saw your thread when you were thinking about buying this camera. I think I have one very much like your old one. It's a Canon about 2 years old. It has a long hesitation between when you press then button and when it actually snaps the picture so I lose a lot of great shots. Does this new camera snap right away?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Love it!!! See how it's sharp in front and more blurry in back? I don't know what mode you're in but that look is caused by a wider aperture - and I LOVE wider aperture pics. I usually shoot in Aperture Priority mode - so, I choose the aperture, and the camera then adjusts shutter for me - but you have to think about light if you're not using flash in that situation. You could also try "Portait" mode and that also may give you more "bokeh" (blurred background). FUN FUN FUN!!! Congrats on new toy!

It was just in Auto mode! I have so much more to learn about aperture and all that. So, the lower the aperture the better?

I don't know if this can be used w/ canons, but a great off-board flash is the SB-400; it is cheap, AND it has tilt - so NO MORE pointing flash directly at subject - you would then have "bounce" instead. Very nice.
