| I'm a new yorkie mommy!! I'm a new yorkie mommy. We got cricket last week. She is 10 weeks. She weighs 2 lbs. I love her so much. I need advice. She is the only pet (baby), although I do have a 12 year old daughter. She is quite content in the kennel when I do errands or when I can't keep a good eye on her. She is going potty 90% outside, and the other 10% on the carpet. She still smells like a puppy. I wonder how big she'll get. The parents were 4 and 6 lbs. She is eating puppy Nutro max. The vet suggested Science diet until she heard Nutro max and said mine was better. Any suggestions?? She loves to run outside and play. We have 1/2 an acre fenced in. Our neighbor has a 2 year old beagle and they are already friends through the fence. Please give me advice on how to keep her healthy and happy!! | Congratulations on your new family member, waistfull! How did you come up with the name Cricket? I think they just need and want a lot of attention when they are babies, I'm sure she's getting plenty of that right now. Make sure she has water available to her at all times and that she does go poop everyday. Has she had all her baby shots yet? |

| Hi and welcome to yorkie talk! This is such a great place, I hope you love it as much as all of us do!! To predict the weight, I've heard to triple the 8 week weight or double the 12 week weight to get an approximation of their full grown weight. But who knows! Love the name Cricket, very different, I don't think I've ever heard of it before!

| She hops like Peppy Le Pu (sp?) and is small like a cute little bug. Add the 2 and you get Cricket. I love her. She has the gallon water bowl that looks like a small water cooler. I put her food down 4 times a day and she does good poops. Is 3/4 a cup a good amount for a total day? She's on Nutro Max. Anything good or bad to say about it? She's had 2 sets and is going back in a week. They are giving the lyme vaccine with it and I'm giving her Revolution on her back shoulders. She will have 2 more sets and wormings. Thanks for the replies!! Please write back with more suggestions! Last edited by waistfull; 02-16-2005 at 05:37 PM. |

You will find many members here give their ideas on puppy food. I just yesterday switched to the Nutro ULTRA. I saw the MAX but liked the ULTRA instead. I also got some canned food (same brand). The ULTRA has more protein and is guaranteed for healthy skin and coat. My Schatzie is loving this new stuff BIGTIME!! The amount you are feeding her sounds ok, the guidelines will be on the back of the bag of food. Also, have you heard of Nutrical? Supplied by your vet. This is good for tiny babies to aid in correct sugar levels to stop them from crashing. (hypoglycemia). It is a life saver for the tiny one's. Also new puppies stress easy so try not to over stimulate him as this also decreases their sugar level. Naps and quiet times are wonderful for them. No jumping off couches, beds, anything for their first year, and even then I would caution it. This can cause Luxating Patella in small breeds. Crate training, lots of Yorkie books, even more so of hugs and kisses and you should be good to go. You sound like everything is going great now, very happy and thrilled for you and hope you enjoy Yorkie Talk, welcome and keep the pictures coming, we love those!
