Thanks. A lot of people think it's weird. The vet assistants weren't sure they were saying it right, and I get a lot of strange looks. I thought Luca was a sorta common name. Fiance insists on calling him "hey, dude," or "Dean" only if formally introducing him, because he didn't get to pick the name this time. Last time he picked names, I ended up with a Fred and a Hank. I wanted something more meaningful, and a few more syllables too!!! I'm still laughing and crying over Half Pint --such a wonderful name for one of our babies; I'm sorry he's gone. Aimee, I read your sight the other day! That's sucha great idea. We are trying to put a website up for all our fourpaws ... but there's so much to say! Where would we start?? |
My baby's registered name is Lindy Grace but I call her Gracie. My sister's name was Linda, and she passed away 11 months ago, and my grandma was Grace, and while she's been gone a long time, I always wanted to name a daughter after her. Sooooo...since I had a son instead, I knew I would someday get a little Yorkie girl named Gracie! And now I have her! |
Our lively 18 month old is, Tyava's Out of Oz, Toto. My husband looked for months to find exactly what we wanted. Actually, I didn't want another pet after we lost our Toy Poodle, Nicole about 7 years ago. Had her for 13 years and I thought I would die when we lost her and swore never to get attached to another pet! Since I wasn't at all interested, I described what I wanted if I had one ... thinking he would never find it! So Patrick is the one who began the "Yorkie Quest"! He searched for several months and by that time we knew if we ever found it, we would have a Yorkie named Toto! We are in so many different states [we work for gas/oil companies] there are actually times we forget where we are and I am constantly saying "We aren't in Kansas anymore, Toto!" :) Tyava, of course, is the kennel name. We became so unbelievably attached to her in about five minutes after we first held her! We had paid to reserve "pick of the litter" and never even looked at the others! She is purebred and yes, we paid a great deal for her and I believe she could have done well in the show ring ... but, we wanted a pet and she is absolutely the sweetest little girl we could've imagined! Well ... actually she is a "spoiled brat" ... but in a good way!!! Our lives revolve around her ... we quickly became Yorkieholics!! ;) |
Hey! Love "Gracie" and "Toto" and the stories you both shared. I knew people always put a lot of thought into naming pets so I hoped this would be an interesting thread. Those names are both adorable! Thanks for the input and all the wisdom you provide on this forum. ;) |
Before we got my baby, me and my boyfriend tossed around a few names. I always wanted a sweet, little thing that i could snuggle up with and that would be a lap dog since all my previous dogs were BIG!! I thought of the name "Dolce" and he liked it too. When I went to pick her up with my sister the whole car ride home i was like "does she look like a Dolce?" Well, we sat in traffic for and hour and a half...she was 8 weeks old....and she was as sweet and cuddly as could be the whole time. I knew she had to be called "Dolce" because that means "sweet" in Italian....had to stay true to my heritage!!! "La Dolce Vita!!!" Because how could life be any sweeter when you have a Yorkie??? :D |
AMEN, Dolce's Mom!! What a sweet and wonderfully creative name you chose! I think it fits her! :) |
:D Thanks so much!!! Although sometimes I think I should have named her "Scutch" (sounds like Butch) because she is a little pain in the you know what sometimes...my Italian grandmother used to call us grandkids that all the time, oh and a few other names in Italian that I'll uh, ahem, leave out here...but she is my little Dolce and that fits her MOST of the time!! lol |
