Sully's 1st grooming...can you tell a difference?

Well..once again - Chanel and Cheri are panting with those tongues hanging out - he looks very good - at least Petsmart didn't BOTCH his haircut - we went once and that was the only time - he looks darling and he does have some pretty colors for real.....

I think it's better to have a LITTLE cut than have too much cut - you can always go check out the other groomers now ....We did walk thrus one day to just observe and that's a good way to check them out before you make that big appointment.

Sully is such a handsome little fellow. Don't get discouraged, you will find a great groomer. It just takes some time.

Yes!!! It is! Thank you VERY MUCH! I searched for it under "grooming" as my search word, I think. But I'm going to read through this and be WELL prepared for next time.

**How often do you all take your yorkies in for grooming?**

Sully is prancing around the house like a brand new dog....you should see him. I'm sure he's feeling lighter and quite handsome! I read him all of your compliments and you're going to give him a big head! I think he already has one and that's why he's prancing around like so. He's light on his toes, it's so funny!

We asked all over town about where to take him...everyone said somewhere different...so we just went to PetSmart. Given it was my first time, and Sully's too, I didn't expect perfection. (Nor did we get it.)

They cut his tail hair SO short....and he used to have gorgeous long tail hair! I'm crushed! And his face is a little here-and-there.....a little short in places and obviously untouched in others. (I tried so hard to find the "dos and dont's" thread about grooming but finally gave up, grrrr, I was planning to print that out and take it with me!)

I printed out the dos and do not's for Maggie's groomer. I told her it was not to offend her, but there were so many questions to ask--that I just wrote everything down. She did tell me that she does not like to keep puppies on the grooming table too long. She said, they can't handle being messed with that long. When I picked Maggie up, she looked pretty much like Sully. Trimmed up, and smelling very nice. She recommended that I have her groomed every 6 weeks. She said the more I have her groomed while she is young, the easier it will be when she is an adult. She told me that some adult Yorkies, that have never been to a groomer---are pretty snappy. I for sure don't want Maggie to be snappy.

Well, you have encouraged me to chance getting Copper trimmed. I ran into a guy at an antique shop in Mt. Dora, FL who has a yorkie....he keeps him long, but trims the face some so that you can see the eyes...that is what I think I want for Copper. Anyhow, he gave me the name of his groomer....a lady who does it from her home. I am going tomorrow morning. I will let you know how it turns out. She may only do a little face trim tomorrow and a full groom later. Depends on how busy she is when I get there. I am nervous, but she comes highly recommended.

This was Sully's first grooming and they expected him to be wild and hard to manage but when I came to pick him up...they were amazed and complimented me on his very calm behaviour!

The trainer there at PetSmart noticed and said that I brought him up right, and treated him more like a person than a dog, and that's why he's so easygoing and calm natured. Hmm, never thought of it that way, but I am lucky! Sully has the best little personality of any animal I've ever met!

The trainer also saw Sully's tricks and asked me a few questions about him, my methods etc....and then they offered me a part time job as a trainer there at PetSmart! Imagine that, right?! I told them most likely not but I'd think about it.

I think I'd love that job though.
