| There are different stages: Proestrus: female attracts males, bloody discharge. Lasts about 9 days though the female won't breed. Estrus: Female will accept male and is fertile. Lasts about 9 days. Diestrus: Lasts between 60-90 days. This is when the reproductive tract is under the control of the hormone progesterone. Sometimes a "false pregnancy" can occur. Anestrus: no sexual activity takes place. Lasts 3-4 months. |

| You'll want to watch her closely, as it can take only a few seconds to get "locked". I put doggie diapers on my girl so blood doesn't get everywhere. |

| Cozy will usually have a bloody discharge for 10-14 days and then a brownish discharge. Her "periods" seem to last a month but she has never let a male other than my neutered golden near her. She will growl at other dogs when on her period. LOL. She wants to remain a Virgin Queen.

| The week going out is the fertile and breeding time and when caution should be taken to not allow her with males.
