WOW!! This is a great thread! I have read it from start to finish. You guys and all the clever ideas!! Thanks from all of us newbie yorkie owners!!

I feel like I have a newborn baby. She wakes up with this wad of energy at 3:30 EVERY morning. I'm a schoolteacher so needless to say, I'm not thrilled with playing "Chase the Sock" at the wee hours of the morning. We are taking little walks at night. But right now, she's conked out on my leg. I couldn't keep her awake if I tried, and i have. In 45 minutes she'll be up and rarin' to go again! I would say "Sleepless in Seattle" but I live in Mississippi. So we'll stick with just "Sleepless."

Lol, it is like having a newborn baby, but that's why many of us love Yorkies so much. You'll get more rest in the toddler years. Maybe if someone has a tip on waking up a sleepy puppy for exercise. I can just picture you playing "Chase the Sock" at 3:30 AM, and I'm so glad Joey is two.

I just re-read my post. It was kinda funny wasn't it. Well...she's zooming around my living room as we speak. I'm gonna try to go to sleep soon. Thanks for the support!

I really like this idea, teaching him the word trade! That would be very, very useful! Meeko is a little brat sometimes and darts off with socks or bounce sheets and he so darn fast and hides in tiny areas. :rolleyes: lol such a little brat:p I think he just likes watching me or my bf trying to move the furniture to get him and then he'll run to a new place. He probably laughs so hard at us lol

My tip is more general: Most issues work out given enough time. Don't worry.

Your tip is very philosophical, but in those early months of training, it's good to remember! :D

Wow, this thread is great! I read through the whole thing before I realized it is 2 years old. Not that it matters, the tips are still helpful.

The best tip I got was from my trainer at Petsmart. He suggested a squirt bottle to spray water at Roxie when she is misbehaving. Works like a charm. When she barks at the vacuum, she gets a spritz. When she freaks out over us cleaning the hamster cage, she gets a spritz. When she is barking uncontrollably, she gets a spritz. She hates it, and most times all I have to do is pick up the squirt bottle and she runs away. :p

mine does that. she learned that sometimes i chase her for fun and don't want to actually take it and other times when i say SADIE STOP! i mean stop and let me have that and if you stop and freeze you will get a treat for it.

I haven't read through all 6 pages yet (or whatever...)

but the best tip I have I discovered by accident while flying with Sugar.
She was a bit out of sorts in her carrier and was hungry/thirsty. I couldn't unzip the bag or she would escape :rolleyes: so I took out the syringe I had for her benadryl if she needed it (she didn't :D) and filled it from my bottle of water. I was able to squirt it slowly through the mesh in her carrier and she happily lapped it up :drool: :p I now never leave home without one in her bag!

I always tip my Service Advisor and Technician periodically! Costs a little, but saves a lot!

Tips I've Learned:

Teeth Clean time: both my dogs are well aware that if they tolerate me brushing their teeth at the very end they get dental chews as a "treat" and it helps clean their teeth too.

Like others have mentioned I will put them on their backs to do certain things they need done like nail trims and clothing changes and exploring things that need exploring. I lay them across the gap on my legs and belly rub like crazy.

Thanks for bumping this up I have learned a lot of great tips. Well I just learned this today and I guess it could be considered a tip. I was making Buster's breakfast when I head a tearing sound. Since I know he gets into everything I went to investigate. Well he had found my roommates used, luckily, heat patch for sore muscles. Well I did not know if Buster had swallowed any of the pellets are there were some on the floor so I called the ASPCA Poison Hotline. They asked if he was microchipped and I said yes and then they asked if he was registered with Home Again which he was not. "For HomeAgain members who have the full service annual membership, there is no charge for use of the ASPCA Poison Control Hotline.
If your pet does not have a HomeAgain full service annual membership, you may be charged $60 for this call."
Well since Buster is a vacuum and is always picking up things I am definitely going to register him. He is okay but it was quite an interesting start to my day!
