What About Us? ◙ Warning!! Graphic!! ◙ So many times I read about someone buying a puppy online, they link a cute website, and pictures of puppies in cute clothes or romping with children. Sometimes, they have pictures of the whole family, and the website has American flags, and Bible scripture. The sites all make you feel like you've found a reputable breeder, and they even have "adoption forms," so you believe the breeder cares about puppy placement. Many people will say that they talked to the breeder and he/she seems like such a nice person. Seasoned members of Yorkietalk will try to warn the person that it probably not a good place to buy a puppy, but the person has "puppy fever" and wants a puppy NOW! Besides they say, "Even if it is a puppy mill, puppy mill puppies need homes too, and at least I will give my one puppy a good home." What's wrong with this thinking? Every time you "rescue" a puppy from a bad breeder two more will take its place, and what about all the breeding dogs left behind? Remember if you support puppy millers you are condoning the torture of million of dogs! Don't forget, anyone can join Yorkietalk, just because someone is a member of Yorkietalk, it doesn't make him or her a reputable breeder. Reputable breeders will want you to come to their homes, they will want to get to know you and become a part of their lives, do not support breeders who won't let you see how the breeding dogs live. Please watch this video if you aren't familiar with Puppy mills, its important to see that these dogs need our help. Please encourage others not to buy puppies online, and feel free to link it, whenever you see that someone is thinking about supporting an online breeder. Is every breeder selling online a puppy mill? No, of course not, but there is absolutely no way of knowing the difference, unless you visit the IN PERSON. Now that people know about not buying puppies from pet stores, millers are selling online through brokers and their own websites. So if you can't watch the video please listen to the song, and think about, What About Us? If you get your puppy from a rescue make sure it's a reputable rescue and not just a broker selling puppies from puppy mill breeders. Reputable breeders NEVER sell a dog online, they may have an online site, but they do NOT sell the dog from the site. There is a HUGE difference! Great post...thank you. Rose and Levi |
Amazing, sad video! And perfect song choice (you know I'm an MJ fan!) People really need to watch these kind of things to open their eyes. The 1st time I saw the Oprah puppymill special was when I really learned about the terrors of puppymills. Since then, I've even given a speech in my college Oral Communications class about puppymills and spread the word little by little. My professor gave me an A+ and everyone in the class was so moved by my speech... they said they had NO idea. |
Nancy - GREAT POST and thank you for putting this up - we used to do this all the time here and it seems to have gone by the wayside. People (all over) just don't think beyond that cute puppy when buying dogs - especially from PET STORES -but there are more small scale mills now than ever especially with the internet it's such a vicious cycle that video wasn't nearly as graphic as some - the MJ song was perfect for it but I admit - I could only watch 1/2 of it - makes me too sad |

years ago when I saw my 1st mill video I was so shook up ...I was crying -(for days and days),,,,and couldn't shake the feelings - I remember my husband telling me no more computer - I forced myself to watch and learn what I could so when I spoke I'd have knowledge of what I was talking about and they still make me cry it's still haunting to know they're out there thriving all for a few dollars. anyone can search the net and see tons of them - they are THAT big of an industry but like Nancy warned - some are very very graphic. |
Nancy, another great post! I really hope people who come to this site see this video before making a decision to buy from a pet store or online. I feel sick after watching that video...I can't believe some humans and how they treat these helpless animals… |

Thank you so much for posting this! A lot of people think that they are "rescuing" a pup from a puppy mill, but instead they are supporting them. As soon as they sell all their pups they will just make more. This is so sad and heartbreaking! I couldn't finish watching it, it made me cry. |
Excellent, heartbreaking video. It makes me so sad to think that Thor's parents probably spent their lives in one of those cages. :( |
Great Post! I am uploading it to my Facebook Page too :) |
Oh why oh why did I just watch that? I'm about to pass out. :(:(:( Those poor things, I'm about to cry. I only made it about half way. Thank you for this thread nancy. |
I cried through the whole video, start to finish... Oliver sat on my lap and all I could do was glance down at him, knowing that he spent his first year and a half in one of those cages, piled up to the ceiling in someone's garage. He was abused, malnourished, and neglected. And his parents and grandparents likely suffered far more and far longer than Oliver did. He was one of the lucky ones. He got out. He's on the floor right now playing with his little sister. He remembers what he's endured. I'm not sure he'll ever forget. |
These videos always make me cry. I look at Cocoa and Snowboy and know that this is the way they lived. "Revenge is mine, I won't overlook a thing," say the Lord. (Heb.10:30 Message) Nancy, I would like to include this thread in the links that I post on Newbies profile pages when I run across someone looking for a puppy. Thank you. ~Joanne~ |
