| Bunty Victoria died aged 12 Sadly Bunty Victoria had to be put down aged 12 and a half on July 25th. About a month ago, Bunty was consuming lots of water- drinking like a camel throughout the day. We took the Iams dry biscuit out of her diet which stopped the bloating and excessive water intake. However, two weeks before she died, she started to lose lots of weight. Although she was happy her condition was beginning to decline. A blocked nose and near blind eyes were beginning to need attention all the time. She still was very happy and enjoyed herself with Pippi, my 14 year old jack russell princess. The day before she died she was very slow and ill looking and the following day she had a chemical smell on her breath. She was like a shell of her former amazing self. Within an hour we knew we had to let her go. The vet was lovely and it really helped to stay with her body for a while after the euthanasia. We had been through this a year ago with Sophie our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel so in a way I knew what to expect. The worrying factor was how Pippi would cope. Twelve years companionship to be changed in a day is a lot for a dog to cope with. We distracted her for two or three days by taking her in the car with us whenever we left the house, extra walks and more attention, so she didn't really notice the big loss in her life. She does still need more support at feeding times and at night- the times the girls would always be together. She has coped very well which is fantastic, the vet was pleased with her progress as she is on heart tablets and now anti-incontinance tablets. I am finding it easier than expected, after all Bunty was like my sister since I was two years old. It is more strange than upsetting now, It is odd to not see her around the house or garden-tail wagging and behaving like a puppy! I will continue to post and watch Yorkie Talk as Yorkies are still very important to me! No plans to get another one while we still have Pippi but I will certainly have them in the future. Best Wishes YorkieTalkers, Love Lizzi xxx Last edited by Pippi Bunty; 08-12-2007 at 08:52 AM. |

| Your loss I am so sorry to hear of your recent loss. I am in a similar situation with my 7 year old shi-tzu, she can only hobbel along now but does not seem to be in any pain, so I will let her tell me when it is time. God Bless you

| I am so sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose a member of your family. Sending hugs to you and Pippi and prayers that Pippi will be able to adjust to being an only child for awhile. God Bless.

| Oh, I am so sorry for your loss after 12 wonderful years. I know it is difficult to write on this thread, but your note helps everyone who is walking the lonely path with their beloved pet. Your story reminds me of my sweet Sophie who was pts on January 23 after 13 years. There is that point when you know they must be helped to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Bless you -Deborah

| I'm so very sorry for you and i know from experience how hard this must have been for you. Just in may this year i had to have my beloved 14 year old Heidi PTS and i can honestly say that it just about broke my heart..it was THE hardest thing i have ever had to do..but i knew it was the right thing to do..i loved her so much and could not have watched her suffer in any way..i did feel guilt of course and doubted my decision..did i let her go too soon?..but i think i was right in letting her go when i did, her breathing was laboured and she was exhausted from not sleeping i couldn't watch her struggle any longer. MY heart goes out to you and your family and if you need to chat you are welcome to PM me anytime. Kerry.

| Thankyou Everyone Thankyou so much for your kind words. I know that when you take on a pet, you take on their voice. Bunty was not able to speak about her discomfort so as a responsible dog owner, I knew it was time. It can be a very difficult decision but I knew it would be selfish of me to try and draw it out even over another day. Reading comments on this site, I see that some of you are concerned if you made the right choice- This guilt is just grieving. When you know its time with a dog you know what you have to do. It realy means a lot to me that you have sent supportive messages. It does help to talk about your yorkies death- Something which some people do not do. I have details of a UK based Post Pet-Loss support group 'Faithfully Yours' which is run by a trained bereavement counsellor. The service is free but enclose a self adressed, stamped envelope in your letter. Send letters to- 15 St Oswalds Crescent Billingham TS23 2RW Their telephone - Tel: UK 01642 556700 Best time to telephone: 5.00pm - 7.00pm, daily Well done YorkieTalk.com this site is helping many people who have lost a yorkie to feel better and more positive. Best wishes to everyone else who is greiving a pet. Thanks again YorkieTalkers, Love Lizzi + Pippi Longstocking xxx These are photos of Bunty as a puppy meeting my grandmothers old black labrador Jess, and Pippi- My princess (parson) jack russell terrier! |
