Default Bunty Victoria died aged 12

Sadly Bunty Victoria had to be put down aged 12 and a half on July 25th.

About a month ago, Bunty was consuming lots of water- drinking like a camel throughout the day. We took the Iams dry biscuit out of her diet which stopped the bloating and excessive water intake. However, two weeks before she died, she started to lose lots of weight. Although she was happy her condition was beginning to decline. A blocked nose and near blind eyes were beginning to need attention all the time. She still was very happy and enjoyed herself with Pippi, my 14 year old jack russell princess. The day before she died she was very slow and ill looking and the following day she had a chemical smell on her breath. She was like a shell of her former amazing self. Within an hour we knew we had to let her go. The vet was lovely and it really helped to stay with her body for a while after the euthanasia. We had been through this a year ago with Sophie our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel so in a way I knew what to expect. The worrying factor was how Pippi would cope. Twelve years companionship to be changed in a day is a lot for a dog to cope with. We distracted her for two or three days by taking her in the car with us whenever we left the house, extra walks and more attention, so she didn't really notice the big loss in her life. She does still need more support at feeding times and at night- the times the girls would always be together. She has coped very well which is fantastic, the vet was pleased with her progress as she is on heart tablets and now anti-incontinance tablets. I am finding it easier than expected, after all Bunty was like my sister since I was two years old. It is more strange than upsetting now, It is odd to not see her around the house or garden-tail wagging and behaving like a puppy!

I will continue to post and watch Yorkie Talk as Yorkies are still very important to me! No plans to get another one while we still have Pippi but I will certainly have them in the future.

Best Wishes YorkieTalkers, Love Lizzi xxx
