Dog's Don't Have Souls, Do They?
By Chuck Wells, Palmyra N.Y.
I remember bringing you home. You were so small and cuddly with your tiny paws and soft fur.

You bounced around the room with eyes flashing and ears flopping. Once in awhile, you'd let out a little yelp, just to let me know this was your territory.

Making a mess of the house and chewing on everything in sight became a passion, and when I scolded you, you just put your head down and looked up at me with those innocent eyes, as if to say, "I'm sorry, but I'll do it again as soon as you're not watching."

As you got older, you protected me by looking out the window and barking at everyone who walked by.

When I had a tough day, you would be waiting for me with your tail wagging just to say, "Welcome home. I missed you." You never had a bad day, and I could always count on you to be there for me.

When I sat down to read the paper and watch TV, you would hop on my lap, looking for attention. You never asked for anything more than to have me pat your head so you could go to sleep with your head over my leg.

As you got older, you moved around more slowly. Then one day old age finally took its toll, and you couldn't stand on those wobbly legs anymore. I knelt down and patted you lying there, trying to make you young again. You just looked up at me as if to say you were old and tired and that after all these years of not asking for anything, you had to ask me for one last favor.

With tears in my eyes, I drove you one last time to the veterinarian. One last time, you were lying next to me.

For some strange reason, you were able to stand up in the animal hospital; perhaps it was your sense of pride.

As the veterinarian led you away, you stopped for an instant, turned your head, and looked at me as if to say, "Thank you for taking care of me"

I thought, "No, thank YOU for taking care of me."

*********************
This invokes tears each time I read it, but tears are good when shed for those you love. To never cry, is to have never loved.
You are a loving man ... bless your heart! Kassie was lucky to have you.
Debbie, Monday and Friday
Good afternoon Debbie,

May I offer you my apology for this tardy reply, seems to be SOP with me as of late, I'm sorry.

I am sorry Debbie for your terrible loss of two husbands, can't begin to know how one survive's the loss of one loved, two is beyond my understanding, I also lost my wife of 37 years, most certainly after losing two husbands you loved very much, you need not to have lost a furbaby to understand sorrow and grief in whatever form it may come upon us, and I am sincerely sorry you went through the ordeal of losing two precious souls twice.

Dog's Don't Have Souls, Do They? is so appropo, I enjoyed it very much if tears are any indication of one's enjoyment, much in there seems to be exactly what Kassie and I lived.

May I thank you Debbie for your thoughtfullness, you are very kind, and it is very much appreciated.

The truth is I was lucky to have had Kassie.

Thank you very much Debbie.

A embarrassed hello Dionna (lilbit4fun),

As I must also apologize to you for being so tardy getting back, sad to say I'm not such a "wonderful man" as you stated, I'm sorry.

I am sorry if I caused you to cry, I would have liked to avoid causing anyone to come to tear's, of which I'm doing my fair share, and more than anytime in my life here at YorkieTalk.

Are you saying you also lost a baby Yorkie, I sure hope you didn't have to go through this also ?

I thank you Dionna for your encouraging expressions, and your offer, I just may take hold of that hearing ear one day, and once more, I am so sorry for my late reply.

Thank you so very much.

Papi

Want you to know we're still here for you...tell me a story about Kassie, something that will make me smile, and hopefully you too, it may still bring you to tears to talk about her, but I think it really helps...I want to know about your baby, other then kisses, what else did she often do, to make you laugh? Come on you can tell me...I'm listening. Hugs to you Papi, I wish you well!!!

Good afternoon Patti,

I'm sorry, can't believe I'm 5 day's late today in replying, I am ashamedly very sorry, I just find it so difficult to keep up with the friends post sad to say, just have so much turmoil going on in my head, and heart.

I see you have already gone through the loss of 3 Yorkies, how very traumatic that must have been for you, I am very sorry for those little babies, how does one get through that, the loss of one is difficult in itself, though see you now have 3 other babies, how very happy I am for you, sure wish I had 3 when Kassie left, it would still hurt but at least the 2 would ease the pain, I alway's wanted to breed Kassie, just one litter for the very purpose if anything happened to her I would have one of her babies left, I wouldn't be completely alone, I was told by vet, she was to small, she might not survive as she was only 4.2 pounds, so of course I didn't want to take the chance with her life, I have come to understand though, if the male was small enough, the parents of stud also small enough she could have probably gotten through one litter fine, I only wish I had known about YorkieTalk back then, I have learned so much here, thankfully, many things might be different now, and believe Kassie would still be with me.

Yes Patti I have reconsidered, I can't live without a furbaby in my life, being alone, it has taken on more importance, I need the companionship so much, sadly it will be sometime coming as I am in no postion to afford $1,200.00 or more, though without a doubt there worth whatever one may feel is fair, and right, in fact I feel every Yorkie is priceless, I orginally purchased Kassie from a breeder here in Jersey for $800.00 and I'm hoping I might get lucky again, find another in her range, I know that won't be easy, I have to be patient for sure, it will happen, I will fall in love with another special baby one day.

Patti, knowing how you feel, how your 3 babies now have given you renewed happiness, helps me to overcome any guilt I may have harbored for my Kassie, as so many of the friends have said, she wouldn't want me to remain lonely, and I thank you for your encouarging perspective, you have most assuredly uplifted my spirits, to think more rationally.

Thank you very much Patti.

Papi

PS: I viewed your web sites, and you did a beautiful job on CalliPuppysCastle, and if I ever get another furbaby, I would be interested in your P$$ Pads, I can't use the letters ee in P$$ or will get my mouth washed out with soap, I can say Wee Wee Pads, or Urine Pad's no, no , no, on P$$ Pads.

Papi, it is people like you that make YT a wonderful place to be apart of a family. Thank you so much for sharing Kassie's life with us. What a BEAUTIFUL girl she is. I can tell by her smile that YOU made her happy, just as I can tell by your posts that SHE made you happy too!

I am so glad to hear that you have room in your heart for another Baby. What joy you will bring each other. Best of luck finding the perfect baby, she's out there waiting for you.

Thank you very, very much.

I appreciate your kind sentiments but the truth is you, and the Yorkie friends have passed that on to me, I caught the Yorkie plaque so to speak, 18,000 members here who express, portray the same love our Yorkie's have taught us, it can't get any better, we are so fortunate to be a part of this family, and the fact there is such a place as YorkieTalk for us to gather, and share our joy's, and sorrows, and more so our precious furball's with one another, if there's a heaven on earth this is it, I'm grateful to be a member, a part of a very special, and unique family.

I thank you for your endearing comments for Kassie and I, yes, we were both so happy with one another, she was so special, I'll miss her forever, and I appreciate being able to share our love with you and the friends, and validating our live's.

Nicole, I have been to Rockaway many times out on Rt.46 during my course of employment, specifically to the Shop Rite, not very familiar with the town other than that, do you still live in Jersey ?

May I thank you Nicole for caring, and being so encourging, you have been very kind to Kassie and I, or is it (me) ? never did very well in English.

Thank you so much Nicole.

Hi Kathy,

This is a true story

You want to hear a story do you ? well I will share one with you if you promise to keep it between you and me, as it could prove to be quite embarrassing to my Kassie, can you keep a secret now.

When Kassie and I attended a family gathering or party of sorts, of course there would be music and dancing , and I would dance , yes, I knew how to do the two step, well your going to have to use your imagination a little here, get a mental image of this in your mind, and what might help is if I ask, did you ever see a dog with worms as he/she drags their butts along the ground ? well this is what Kassie would do when I danced with someone, she would squat on her hind legs, and drag her little butt back and forth, all around us as we danced, it was the strangest, most rediculous thing I or any of my family, friends ever saw, I never laughed so much in my life, I only wish I had a camcorder at those times, I would have sent a tape to America's Home Video, and no, if your wondering, thinking Kassie may have had worms, that's a resounding no, I can only attribute this funny, odd behavior to a talented hiney, my Kassie took lap dancing to a higher level Butt Dancing

Kathy, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Papi

Evening Dan & Corinne,

I never heard of the Booty Scooch, though if had would probably have used that, as more appropriate, though the truth be told the Booty Scooch I believe is when a dog has worms, the Butt Dance hasn't any association with worms, it's all talent.

I'll be back when I can think of another one, time for Papi to tuck himself in.

I'll bid you a good night for now my friends.

Thank you.

Papi

Okay...I have the image in my mind...Kassie was one talented little girl...Butt dancing is a very rare trait. I can't help but wonder, she probably thought she was dancing just like everybody else...She could have been a star, she could have WON Dancing With The Stars. Loved, loved, loved your story...tell me another...please!!!
