I can't believe Kramer is gone I can’t believe I lost my little 8 1/2 year old Yorkie right in my own neighborhood. We were just out for our after work walk, my little yorkie Kramer, on one side and his little Chihuahua buddy, Maddie on the other side (both on leashes of course). They both love to go for walks; it’s the highlight of their day. We came upon another owner out walking her two dogs on the other side of the street. My dogs both started barking as they love to greet other dogs but I could tell by the way the other owner was holding her dogs that they might not be friendly so we stayed on our side of the street. The next thing I knew her black lab came flying across the street at us. I was in the process of picking up my babies to protect them but the lab got Kramer mid-air. He wouldn’t let go even though the owner was holding her dog and I repeatedly kicked him. When he did finally release my little Kramer, he was unable to move. I rushed him to the animal hospital but Kramer’s spine had been severed and they couldn’t save him. He was in so much pain; I had to have him put to sleep. They said that he wouldn’t survive and I couldn’t stand to see him in pain. I can’t get the picture of him not being able to move out of my head and him crying in pain before they put him to sleep. I feel so guilty that I didn’t protect him. I didn’t call Animal Control for 3 days because I was so upset and couldn’t even talk about what happened with out bawling. Because I waited 3 days to call them, I was told they could not do anything except give the dogs owners a warning. I can’t believe that they aren’t going to check to ensure that the dog will not harm anyone else’s pet or child. The owners said that they wouldn’t walk the dog anymore and just let him out in there fenced in backyard. I’m so mad that nothing is going to be done to the dog. What if he goes after someone’s child? Does anyone know if I could bring a suit against the owners? Maddie and I miss Kramer so much. It’s been 2 weeks since it happened and Maddie just keeps waiting by the front door and crying wondering when Kramer is going to come home. We are both heartbroken. Kramer we’ll love you forever and look forward to seeing you again someday. Love always, Mommy

| OMG! I'm so sorry for your loss, that is horrible, and to have to witness it, I can't imagine, you poor thing, Did the other owner, apoligize or anything, other than say she wouldn't walk the dog anymore, that is unreal! I pray you get some justice.. You and Kramer are in my thoughts.

At least she did apologize Yes, the owner apologized and left a check for what she thought would cover the vet expenses. I wasn't able to return her calls for a couple of days so she just dropped a check in my mailbox and it didn't quite cover the hospital costs. I know that she feels awful about what happened but I'm sure she must have known that the dog was vicious. I'm going to ask the neighbors around her about any prior instances. If there is any indication that the owners knew the dog was dangerous I may pursuit the matter in court. Thanks for your sympathy.

Yes at the very least you van take them to small claims court!!! They need to be held responsable in whatever you can get that done!! It won't bring your baby back but at least you will be standing up for your baby and making sure in whatever way you can that it might not happen to someone else. I would contact your local court system to see just what you have to do. Other that keeping their dog in a fenced yard did they offer to pay for the vet bills at least or anything? That is about all you'll be able to sue for plus the cost of your baby - I know that we can't put a price on them but the court will put a price based on what you paid to adopt him. I know there are probably better qualified people on here who will know better what you can do but you can start with the small claims court. I can't even imagine what you have gone through- all I can say is that I am sorry you had to go through that and know your baby is in a better place and you will see him again. I know that doesn't help much!!

Kramer I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I would tally up the expenses and tell the owner...unfortunately, the law does not put much of a monitarty value on an 8 yr old dog..very sad, since they are priceless..best wishes

What a sad,sad thing for everyone. I had a "friendly" collie snatch one of my babies right out of my arms. Thank God she wasn't hurt. But I shook for days after. I was so upset (mad) I wanted to shoot both dog & owner. My heart & prayers are with you.

Kramer Thank you all so much!! It does help to know that someone else understands what a loss it is. I now carry a heavy metal cane along with me on walks with Maddie and won't hesitate to use it. I don't want little Maddie to also lose out on her daily walks. She enjoys them so much. I almost wish that dog would come after me so I could take a swing at him.

I hope everything gets better!! I understand how you feel exactly!!! I think that it's more of the owner's fault then the lab's fault because it is the owner that didn't contain his/her dog, it's the owner that did not trained them, she should've known how her dogs are and what kind of personalities they have... Her just feeling sorry doesn't mean much....compare to the damage she caused you... Hopefully she will get what she deserved !! Sorry, I am just a little angry, I've been reading alot of post here and like I just don't get it that so many of yorkies are getting hurt becuase of some others mistake or careless action..and it's something that they can avoid from the begining ..(I am not refering to the owner of the yorkies, i mean the owner of the attack animals...)..they are not just yorkies, they are alive and they have feelings and all that...just because they are not human, they are still equal to us, they are still lives....
