Something to Share

My deepest sympathies to all those who have lost their loved one. Although I'm grieving for my Reggie I want to share what we do when we loose a puppy. It was a very cold winter day and the ground was too cold to bury the baby puppy. My husband came up with this idea and we've used it ever since. He cuts PVC pipe long enough to hold the puppy and seals it with end caps. Then I write the pups birth name, date of birth and date of death on it and sometimes a short message.

Our Reggie was 7, departed from us on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, leaving us with 5 healthy baby girls 8 days old to take care of. It took a 6 inch pipe for her. When the Good Lord calls me up, she will go with me.

No, I meant where do you put the pipe after you place them in it? You said the ground was too frozen to dig. We had Bandit creamated and his box sits on a shelf in the living room with his picture.

We keep them on a shelf in the basement.

Sorry to hear about your loss, as well as everyone else's.....

But, wouldn't their be an odor? Or do you wait until the ground unfreezes and then bury them?

No, there is no odor because the ends are sealed shut. It is a piece of PVC pipe cut to length of the pup then there are end caps put. First you clean both the outside of the pipe and the inside of the cap. Then you use a sealer glue for PVC, put one end on and hold it for a few seconds until it sets up and it's permemently sealed. Then repeat the process on the other end. It is sealed up tight, no smell can escape.

Forgot to add, thank you all for your support during our traumatic month. We had a pipe big enough for Reggie but were unable to get the end caps to fit the pipe. My husband was going to cement the ends and then bury her in the ground. I couldn't deal with that so I called the vet and had her cremated so when it's time for me to go, she will still go with me.
