| I lost Maezie during a dental Maezie passed away on Friday. She was at the clinic for a dental, which was planned to be her last one because she's prone to bad teeth that seem to get real dirty and cause issues. She had a number of teeth removed previously and it was thought to take out as many teeth as needed instead of doing a dental every year. She probably would've lost quite a few of her remaining teeth cause the previous dental x rays showed that bone loss under the gumline for a number of teeth, although not at the point they recommend removal (50%), she basically had bad teeth. That's just the easiest way to explain it and she needed to have a dental. She was 3 years and 2 months old. Very young. And she, as far as I and the vet know, was healthy. I had blood work done which showed everything as being normal. She had been under anesthesia before to get spayed and also for her previous dentals. I believe she had 2 cleanings before and once to remove all her baby teeth that she retained. She had a shark mouth at one point in time. The same drugs and protocol as the times before was used this time. My understanding is her heart just all of a sudden stopped. It happened at the beginning of the process. The vet never even started the cleaning and extraction of any teeth. So I guess at the induction phase of the anesthesia. They gave her an IV and had a tube down her throat. My memory is a little foggy about what I was told when I was there. I was just in shock. But I recall something about "as soon as they gave her the IV". I don't understand how this could happen or why it happened. The vet and the staff seemed in shock and said they don't know why. They told me they immediately did compressions and gave her drugs that are supposed to get her heart beating again. But none of that worked. Because I want answers, Maezie's body is being sent to Saskatoon. There's a vet university/vet college there and they're going to do a necropsy. But I will still get her ashes sent to me. I'm praying for answers. I kinda need that for my peace of mind. I'd hate to think she'll be that dog in a case study of some research article or whatever. I don't know but I just want answers. I worried about anesthesia with Bijou when he was older and also because he had a heart murmur. But Maezie was so young and, as far as is known, healthy; And she had been through anesthesia before at the same clinic same doctor using the same drugs and protocol that worked for her before. I'd hate to think they screwed up at the clinic. It's known as the best clinic in town and that they don't take any shortcuts. So I just don't understand how this could happen. Losing Maezie like this has been just a complete shock. So sudden. When I lost Bijou it was different cause he was nearly 18 and had dementia and the whole weighing quality of life and stuff. This is just a complete shock. My dogs mean the world to me. They're my life. And now I just don't even know how to cope with this. I'm beyond devastated. In 3 months I went from having 3 dogs to 1 dog. |

| How absolutely devastating for you. I am so very sorry for your loss, I to hope you get answers as to why, what happened. 20 years ago I lost a baby, she was 13 years old but healthy. She was acting strange, wandering around the house, going into rooms that she normally didn't go into. 30 minutes went by when I realized I hadn't see her which was odd, she was always where I was, I went looking for her and found her dead in the den. I rushed her to my vet, she was gone, I was in shock, they wanted to do a necropsy, I said why, that won't bring her back. I have regretted for 20 years not having it done, never knowing why all of a sudden she just died. You're doing the right thing, getting an answer to what happened. My heart is just breaking for you (((hugs)))

| Thank you everyone. It's been so hard. It's been so painful. Maezie means so much to me and I loved her so much. I was so proud to call her mine. My life has just been turned completely upside down. My dogs are such an integral part of my life. To lose a dog this way is just so shocking and unexpected. I can't believe I'm never going to see her again. And I'm just so confused how this could happen. I'm worried that the necropsy won't provide answers. Apparently in some cases they just can't find answers as to why. I hope that doesn't happen. I still feel so numb and just can't believe it. |

| I am so very sorry for your loss! Unfortunately I experienced a similar situation a few years ago when we lost our little boy, Tucker, during his neuter, and I understand the thoughts and emotions that are bombarding you at this time. He was a happy, healthy eight month old. Our vet did a thorough checkup the day before, and ran a complete blood panel. His heart stopped as they were attempting to bring him out of the anesthesia, and they were not successful in reviving him. I will never forget receiving the call from the vet, and being in total shock. In our confusion and numbness, we did not have a necropsy...and I still wonder exactly what happened to our baby. I hope that you will receive answers which help you heal. We decided to open our hearts to our new babies, Ty and Gus, and their love has helped us manage to remember the sweet times with our beloved Tucker. With the support and understanding of our compassionate vet, we even managed to overcome the fear surrounding having our new little ones neutered. My thoughts are with you through this heartbreaking time. Please know that you took all of the proper precautions, and were doing what was best for your Maezie. May you find peace of mind and, if you feel that it is right for you, open your heart to the possibility of loving a new, unique little one again.

| This is truly heartbreaking. It’s wrong &unfair. Wonder if she was properly monitored while anesthetized is always my first thought when. healthy dog dies under anesthesia. Can’t help it, my mind just automatically goes there. Bless your heart. All I can say is how very sorry I am! R.I. P., Little One.

| I am so sorry for the loss of your precious little girl. Such a loss is something we all fear when having one of our pups undergo anesthesia. My 3 are due for dentals in a few months, and as always it will be hard to do. I hope you get some answers from the necropsy, even though it won't bring her back. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
