I'm Devastated!!!!

I don't know what to do with myself!! We lost Maddie today. I can't stop crying. She went into labor at around 6:45 this morning. She seemed to handle it great. 4 hours went by and we decided to take her to the vet. He said she was fine. We just needed more time. He took an x-ray and measured the puppies heads again and told me she had plenty of room for them. We brought her back home and 20 minutes later, I saw a tail come out. I didn't waste any time taking her back to the vet again because I just thought it was the thing to do. My heart can't handle the details of what my poor little girl had to go through next. We had to cut her and pull the puppy to the point that it did not survive. We decided to do a C-section after that. After the surgery, we got the news that she, nor any of her pups made it. A few hours after our devastating shock, we called the vet to make arrangements for my sweet little girl's body. It was then that we got the news that one of her pups ended up surviving. She's a girl. We are now home with a tiny little girl left from my little angel Maddie. It is such a mix of emotions that I can't explain. We fed her and she's now resting. I'm so nervous. She has to survive. Any help you could give us is greatly appreciated. Maddie would appreciate it too.

I'm sure there is no better word to describe your feelings at this point besides devastated.

My heart goes out to you and Maddie.

Did the vet show you how to make the little female pee and poop? Its going to be a long few weeks for you but with the proper guidance from our breeder experts, you'll have better luck than without them!

Best of luck to you!

Lisa

He did explain that. I know I should do it when i feed her. Other than that, how often should i do it? I plan to feed her every 2 hours or if she starts crying. What about burping her? God, I feel so helpless right now.

Dont feel helpless!! You also have to keep her very warm and as far as burping I have always just gently rubbed(sp) there back. Do you have nutrical on hand? its a good idea to have. A digital kitchen scale is good to have so you know that she is gaining weight. My thoughts are with you Always Keep us posted

I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet angel Maddie. It is a miracle that a baby survived. My prayers are with you and your new lil angel.

luvmymonkies 01-02-2006 09:21 PM

Thank you all so much for your words of kindness. I am trying my best to be strong right now. I just keep looking at the little spots that she used to sit and watch me when I was busy and all her little chewed up toys...I just feel like I can't take it. I'm trying to be strong for this little baby.

doggieluver 01-02-2006 09:23 PM

soon enough your little one will be the same way and you may just wanna leave the toys were they are so that the new baby has some sense of mommy near... Just a suggestion...

I also rubbed her back after I fed her. It seemed to work, but I've never had experience with something so small. I am feeding her "Just Born" plus colostrum. She looks like a little fighter. Tons of movement and she was very vocal when I picked her up.

YorkieShadow 01-02-2006 09:24 PM

I am so sorry to hear you lost Maddie and the babies. My heart aches for you and her. I hope this little girl makes it. I will keep you and her in my thoughts and prayers.

Yorkie24U 01-02-2006 09:25 PM

OMG, how devastating...... many prayers your way in your sadness.

feminvstr 01-02-2006 09:29 PM

oh my ...this is all too sad.

Keep your little gal warm (heat pad under her blanket on low) feed every two hours for the 2-3 weeks...did your vet give you puppy colostrum? Its also wise to get a digital scale weighing her 3 times a day making sure she is gaining. you might want to put a very soft stuffed animal in for her to cuddle to, will also help her keep warm.

I wish you the best

BabyFidgette 01-02-2006 09:32 PM

So Sorry Heather

Heather,

I'm so sorry that this has happened. :cry8: I hope that your little girl makes it and keeps on fighting. Don't forget to take care of yourself too.

I'm glad someone answered you on the burping question.

I'm sure if you PM a few of our wonderful breeders that post on the forum, they will be happy to give you their phone numbers so that you can call them with questions as they come up.

I am sending positive thoughts your direction and wish for you to find the strength you'll need in order to maintain your own wits about you while you're going through the new mommy stage.

Possibly could your vet suggest a recent litter that the mother might take on your pup to nurse ? Just an idea ???? I can't stop crying, its so sad, hope the little angel makes it ok.

bettyeanne 01-02-2006 09:43 PM

Heather, I am so, so sorry for your losses. It's a miracle that at least one baby lived. We will keep you all in our prayers.

shelbysmom 01-02-2006 09:46 PM

This is just heartbreaking. I am just so sorry for your loss.

Wish there was a new momma Yorkie close by that wouldn't mind an extra mouth to feed for a few weeks.

My Shelby was syringe fed for the first 8 days b/c her moms milk didn't come in. It was exhausting for the breeder but Shelby is very healthy now. You have your work cut out for you but staying busy will probably be good for you.

thinking of you...

I am so sorry. I remember when you first posted about buying a welping kit. Was this your first litter? If so, I don't understand why the vet sent you back home. Did he say what happened? I am so glad one of the puppies survived to carry on her legacy, it would be even sadder if none of them did. How is your little male taking it? I'm sure he misses her. What does he think of the new puppy? I'm sure she will look so much like her. Are you planning on keeping her or still giving her to your parents? I am so sorry for your loss. I know that this new puppy won't replace her, but she will definately help mend your broken heart.

RMKC 01-02-2006 10:32 PM

Oooh that is soo sad , i am so sorry, my prayers are with you and your little Baby :(

Go ahead and shed tears Sweetie. Tears are made of salt, and salt heals. We all grieve in our own way.

I just do not know what to say. I am so very sorry for your loss, and the new little bundle is a gift.

I know you are mixed with emotions, but please know we all care about you, and your new baby.

Lots of prayers coming your way.

Take care.

Kate

Yes, this was my first litter. I wanted to do everything right. I did everything right. I had everything ready. It's so sad coming back to this little "nursery" without her. I was surprised he sent let us go back too. She was doing great. I took her to the vet simply because I didn't want to make a mistake. She was doing fine. She was still licking me in the face and sitting up even after the incident of the first pup. The vet said that he took the pups out and was sewing up Maddie and she was fine the whole time (to his knowledge) and then one of the assistants said that she didn't look like she was breathing. The monitor still said her heart was beating but she wasn't breathing. They did CPR and everything, but her heart just faded out. Personally I THINK THEY F@!$% UP!!!!! Sorry...I am just so angry and ...I don't know how else to explain it. My little girl was fine and happy and then THIS!!!!!!!!!!
Monkey has been looking for Maddie ever sense we left with her. We came back home with her box and blanket...he still thinks she's in it. Only now, it's a puppy. He keeps growling at us and crying at the box. I let him smell the baby but he just jumped back and is still growling. I hope he will come around.
Baby is doing great. She's in Maddie's box on a heating pad with Maddie's blanket over her. I will be up all night with this little thing. I love her so much already.

Hi Heather,

Sorry again. :( I see you changed your avatar. Is that Maddie? She\'s so cute. How old was she?

Thank you so much. I can\'t stop crying for my little girl. I just keep thanking her for giving me this little gift. I sit by her and watch her and once in a while come back to you all. You all are my support system right now. I just know that whenever I happen to doze off, I will wake up looking for my girl. This has been a terrible year for me. My Father died unexpectedly from a heat attack, I lost a child myself, I just found out my mom is very ill with radiation poisoning, and now I lost my little Maddie. I believe it\'s just like what they say..."god doesn\'t give you more than you can handle"...I think that\'s how it goes....I CAN\'T EVEN THINK RIGHT NOW.

Yes, that\'s little Mattmatt girl. It\'s an old picture I took of her as a pup. I tried to get Monkey in there, but it didn\'t work. Maddie was a year old.

luvmymonkies 01-02-2006 11:53 PM

I took a picture of the little pup. I can\'t even think of how to resize it right now. I would like to share Maddie\'s little miracle with everyone. If there is someone I could email the picture to that can resize it for me, I can show you this tiny thing.
