As for your grieving take all the time you need and do it your way...if anyone has anything to say, walk away...you have a right to these feelings and to the time it takes to work them out. Some people don't understand the level of attachment to a dear sweet pet...but I do. I'm sure they are probably trying to say things to help but really they are just hurting you more by saying stupid things...

My son had a service dog (Navy) he worked on ships, he sat, he was trained like a human....but one day his girlfriend was playing fetch the ball with him...had him all wound up without commands....she meant well....but she threw the ball and it went toward the main road and this poor pup was killed....stupidly and recklessly, but she didn't mean for it to happen...he was so upset and working through the various emotions...and some folks told him "Jay its a dog cut her some slack she didn't mean it etc".....he was trying so hard to forget and forgive but the more people said things...and tried to help the worse he felt...my kids are like me, they love a 100%, animal or human we give all....

So I do know how you feel and I truly hope you take the time you need for you...this was your baby and you deserve atleast the peace to grieve for him in your own way...

I am so sorry for you loss, I know how bad you are both feeling.

Not that's it's a good thing but don't beat yourself up, because more pet owners drive with their pets loose than in their car than with a car seat. I am not that happy with my car seat so often Lola travels in the back seat in a bed with sides. To me this accident seems to have more to do with the windows being down while in the car with a pet. If the window was not rolled down the dog could not have gotten tossed out regardless if he was in a pet carrier or not.

Unfortunately I often see dogs riding along with no restraint and their head is sticking out of the window, normally large dogs, but still it always makes me shudder.

Thank you that even in your pain you are giving us all a wake up call or reinforcing things that we know but don't always practice. Perhaps it will be Coco's legacy to help prevent this from happening to other pets. RIP little Coco you may not have been with us long enough but you will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry. This is a reminder to me that I need to be better about securing my pups in the car. I only belt them about half of the time. I am seriously looking into ordering the Paw Rider restraint from LilSis because it looks so well made and secure. I can't even imagine how heartbreaking it was to lose your little one so tragicly. So very sorry for your loss. There have been so many accidents and precious pups lost lately, it is devastating. Accidents do happen though, and I do hope you are able to work through this and someday have another little pup to love.

We are all so sorry to hear about your loss. I know your boyfriend feels really bad and it's only normal for you to blame him. Time heals and I hope you find another little puppy to love. When you do think that maybe Coco sent you this puppy to love.
