It's so devastating to lose a pet, I know, I've been there. To lose that innocent, unconditional and giving love is unimaginable. These sweetest creatures in life always leave us too soon, way too soon. The pain won't disappear, John, but I promise you it will get better each day....it will. Don't give up on believing that. Your grief honors your precious Elvis, without a doubt - but don't forget that Elvis loved you SO much and would want you to live a life of love, not pain. John I just wanted to say I am so sorry about the loss of your sweet Elvis. Words cannot describe the special bond we have with these sweet souls who give their love to us so unconditionally. I honestly feel that the world would be a better place if more people loved and bonded with their dogs. So many people feel alienated these days but the love of a dog could heal this loneliness. You and Elvis shared this special kind of love so that the loss of it causes you heart to ache even more, but you were lucky to have shared such a bond, to have as your companion & best friend Elvis. I'm sorry John. I lost my beloved Minnie to a seizure caused by failing kidneys, and those first few days were just the worst nightmare imaginable for me since I love Minnie so much. I couldn't sleep a wink for almost two days after I buried her. I just want let you know you're not alone in being completely devastated losing someone who means so much to you, and I think most of us on this forum have felt the same when it happened. For me the first thing that dropped my stress level to something manageable was reading Beachdog's blog about Paris the Blind Wonder Dog and seeing that there were other people with the same kind of extremely close bond I had with Minnie.

I feel exactly the same.. I want to die. I lost my lovely beautiful best friend ever Tootsie. I feel guilty as hell. She was intelligent she talked to me. We went everywhere together, she attended meetings at my office and travelled with me. We had long walks, and she was very energetic. I was moving house to have a garden for her. I forgot to give her the tick control. She got a fever and developed anemia. Only to find she was bitten. I tried everything blood transfusion intra venous saline and glucose. She got better for a day and then just as we were going to give her her antibiotic she collapsed in pain. I don't know what to do. I feel like I lost a limb or an arm. I walk around crying non stop, and don't have a purpose to live.It has been 3 days now and I am not getting better, I cannot go to work or meet or speak to anyone. I am devastated. She was a healthy 11 years old, I know she was growing older but I wished she died peacefully of old age. I have no one to blame but myself. I was busy and did not notice ... I cannot live with this I need her to forgive me. what do I do? I don't know what to do everything reminds me of her. Everything.

Please don't blame yourself. It was not your fault. You did everything you could to save her. You have to know that. I think it is human to try to blame ourselves when we lose a loved one but we must get over that need to blame ourselves. Please give yourself some peace and accept that it was NOT your fault.

Dear Mahmouha
It has been one week today for me and I still get fits of crying. Don't blame yourself we all forget things and who knows the anemia may not be tick related. We need to both forgive ourselves and think of all the pleasure we brought to our little ones. Its day to day for me and unfortunately we have to let time pass. I am 56 years old and this is the worst pain I have ever had. I will keep checking on you just stay busy

very very sorry for your loss. please do not blame yourself....ur tootsie is not blaming you one bit...id bet my life on it. she wants you to remember her at her best and the good times and the bond you shared. may she rip and i am sending many prayers that you forgive yourself and start to heal a bit. many hugs to you.
