| Harley Hello everyone. A few weeks ago we lost our Yorkshire Terrier Harley Davidson. He was 11 years old, healthy and happy as can be. I found him laying in the yard, dead. The youngest Yorkie (5yrs old) was fine. The sadness of his death has passed but his memory will always live on. But more importantly my loss has turned into action. You see Harley, did not pass away from old age, no, he was killed, by a coyote. We live in a residential neighborhood; we leave two lights on, one on the inside of the porch and one on the outside. There is a church right next to us which is lit up all the time. They both have been going outside on leads; by themselves for years and all of sudden this happened. We called the police and they told my husband, they were aware of coyote sightings in our area and would forward out report to the Animal Control. They knew and told no one, not a single letter, not a single report on the news or in the paper. When I came home from shopping with my mother-in-law a few days after it happened, we found strange tracks were the boys go out. I made calls, Forest Preserve, Police, Animal Control, they all said the same thing, “Sorry for your loss, but we cannot do anything AND it’s illegal to trap and or kill a coyote.” I am going to do everything I can to make sure this does not happen to someone else. Just because you feel safe in your area, you’re not, not even your little Yorkie. We now have a new little Yorkie, but a new policy too; we walk outside with them at all times holding their lead. If you have a Yorkie or another kind of dog, go outside with them! Does not matter if your yard is fenced in, coyotes can easily jump over an eight foot fence to get at something. If you seen a coyote in your area, call Animal Control. They probably will not help, but as long as you tried to remove the threat from your area its a start. For those of you who have lost a Yorkie, my heart goes out too you, nothing can ever replace them, but know they are in a heaven now, with St. Francis of Assisi. http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/5804/morganandharley.jpg (Photo was taken 12hrs before Harley passed away. He is in the red sweater. Morgan is in the green. ) |

| I am so sorry for your loss...we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. You are so right about not ever being to careful. We don't let Lexi out of our sight and are with her always. As, we worry about Hawks, Owls...etc. She is pretty small just around 4 lbs...so I don't trust anything. Hugs to you and your family Cheryl & Lexi |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry for your loss. I live in a sub division in Gurnee, Il and a few months ago the next door neighbor saw a coyote in our Cul de sac and last week my dtr and I saw one on the grassy area near a busy street by our house. I always go out with mine, but they are in a area fenced in by 2 ft tall expens and I worry a coyote could get over it and before I could get all 3 in grab one. I don't know if they are still as afraid of people as they use to be.

| I am so sorry. Please keep spreading the word. I just had this conversation with my guy. He insists that since we are in residential with fenced in yard everything will be fine. He does not believe coyote will jump six foot fence. We have Coyotes here in Cali; and I am so scared of him not being vigilent! I just read him your post. THANK YOU. Once again, I am so sorry for the loss of your wee one. |

My Gigio was also taken by a coyote two week ago( Dec 5th 2009) we also live in residential neighborhood. Very Frustrated with city plans on coyotes. My Life has change with my other dogs I walk them very day and take them out on a lease and I wear a whistle , it very scary. I saw the coyote take her. I screamed and went looking for her. we also found out that 7 other dogs where taken. please please keep up with your city council and management. Stories like this break my heart. It need to be addressed . need to be taken care of, before a kid or a adult get hurt. please please keep a close eye on your furbaby or furbabies JAAC

| I am so sorry for your loss, and for the others who have lost their precious pets. I lost my little Gracie Leigh last year to a dog attack. I kept on grabbing her away and the dog kept grabbing her back. It was horrifying. I also have coyotes, hawks, owls, crows, etc. where I live. Please do not let your dogs out without supervision. Do not wait for the city to take care of the problem. I'm sure they mean well, but they have to follow the laws. I once opened my door, and a porcupine was on my porch. It was way bigger than my yorkies! They are not even predatory, but those quills can hurt a little dog. We have a family of coyotes down the road. We also have avid hunters in the area. Enough said.

| How devastating! I do hope that you will find some way to warn others in your neighborhood. Contact the newspaper?
