| Do any of us know exactly what we will do in an emergency situation? Why automatically do some of you assume your going to do the right thing? Have you planned out your life so much that you are ready for any obstacle to come your way? Don't be so quick to say well, this is what I would of done. You have had time to think about it. When your in the emergency, you don't have time to think, they need an answer now. So you can imply you know what YOU would do, but you would be surprised if you were in his same situation. |

I have cared for and taken in a handful of Rescue's as well, and I am friendly with a certain Yorkie Rescue in this area, I know their mission and how they work and operate, and as much as it would hurt me until the day I died, IF for some reason I could no longer care for mine, I would want them to live on in a happy and loved home, and I would be sooooooooo THANKFUL 'if' I was given that opportunity to give my guys a better life than I could provide. If a Vet told me that I could surrender rather than PTS b/c I couldn't afford the bills, there would be NO DOUBT in my mind....I WOULD NEVER EVER PTS just because I couldn't pay for their care and because I didn't want someone else to adopt them. That is very selfish....

Read carefully. He DIDN"T have the money up front. He had to have that even if he was to relinquish his rights to him to a rescue. Im glad you have a credit card that you are able to use. Not everyone is that fortunate.

				   | Also I would like to add this is a very very good reason to get pet insurance. I feel this OP's pain. His baby is gone because of a decision he felt he had no other way out of. You don't have to agree with his decision, to show compassion and understanding. |

				   | Unfortunately, if I were faced in that situation, I would have to do the same thing. $2,500 to reliquish your animal is a lot of money. I honestly only have $60 in cash and no money in my bank account. I'm not eligible for care credit or any other credit card. I know no one that I could borrow money from. If I wouldn't have to pay such a high price, I would be more than willing to give up my animal to save his/her life and in fact I have had to do it at the beginning of this year, but I wouldn't have been able to pay the price either. I would have no choice. For those of you getting upset, I understand, but at the same time, you are not him and you were not in his situation and yes, the decision would haunt me for the rest of my life. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have large bank accounts.

As far as a credit card, You asked what we would do in an Emergency Situation, and that was my response....

				   | The internet is filled with MANY MANY last resorts ~ Just because the Vet wanted $2500 to relinquish him, doesn't mean that a rescue wouldn't have taken him in ASAP - no charge, no questions asked.... I would not give up until there was truly no where else to turn.... BUT as you all say, that's ME and what I would do.... RIP Spanky |

				   | There has just been so much hostility and VERY judgmental people on this board lately. Things that you shouldn't even be judging someone on. Don't knock someone else until you've walked in their shoes.
