| R.I.P. Spanky 10.27.07 - 10-16-08 My little guy Spanky escaped from the house yesterday & was struck by a car. I was in a meeting when I received the call that this had happened to Spanky. I immediately left work to meet my uncle at the vet in Brooklyn. They took x-rays & found that that he had broken his hip in two places. We immediately rushed him to the recommended surgeon in the city only to find out that surgery was going to cost $7,000 to fix him up. During these hard economic times, my fiance & I could not afford to have this procedure, so I decided to put him to sleep. I feel terrible for doing this, as it was the only solution which adds no financial turmoil to my life. It's something I must cope with, but we'll truly miss him in every way possible. |

| I'm so very sorry for your loss. I know that must have been the hardest decision you've ever had to make and my heart goes out to you for it. Hugs to you and your fiance. Sleep peacefully, Precious Spanky.

| Oh I am so sorry. What a heartrending decision to have to make! He must have been in so much pain, now he is out of pain and at the rainbow bridge. Prayers for you and your fiance.

| Thank you all for the kind words. I have not been able to sleep all night because of my decision. I know he's in a better place, but I miss him dearly. I miss being woken up by him the morning with his ball in his mouth looking for some precious time before i leave for work. I miss saying "Let's go Spanky" as we walk to the front door & he looks back to see if i'm right behind him. |

| OH no, I'm so sorry I hate it that vets won't work with us on payments, forcing folks to make decisions like the one you had to At least he isn't in any pain now. RIP Spanky.

| Well the VET offered to keep him there for the night for an outreageous fee. In return, I would have to turn him over to some organization that would attend to his physical needs & I lose him to some family that would adopt him. Quite frankly, I'd rather lose him to Heaven than to have him in someone's possession knowing that I failed to commit to my puppy. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Wow it was your choice of course, but for me I would surrender any of my dogs if I could not afford to fix them. I would hope that they were fixed up and had a wonderful life with someone that could afford medical care. I'm sorry for your loss and hope your baby is at peace.

| I am sorry for your loss, however, I will be honest in my answer and say that if Spanky were my dog and I could not afford to make him well I would turn him over to a rescue who could give him a second chance. There is nothing wrong in doing this. That is what they do and thank heavens for organizations like this. R.I.P. Spanky, |

I saw your post and I had tears thinking about that poor baby, and thinking about you being upset....THEN I read that you had a PERFECT opportunity to actually SAVE his life. He would have gone into a Yorkie Rescue, got the much needed surgery and care and then he would have lived a LONG HEALTHY and HAPPY life with a wonderful family....BUT your choice was PLAIN and SIMPLE = SHELFISH ....sorry, but I have NO PITY for you anymore

Spanky was offered a second opportunity at an extremely high cost... I mean really high. If you have it like that, which I don't, then you can make congenial decisions in life. Secondly, the doc said Spanky will never be the same after the surgery, so why would I have my buddy live his precious life in pain. I'd rather him live a life where he able to roam without getting injured. Lastly, did I ask you have pity on me? NO! Understand where I am coming from before making judgement.
