Kathy, I am so sorry for your loss. Don't feel guilty about putting Betsy
threw surgery. I would have done the samething if there was a chance
to have her longer. Betsy was a lucky girl the day you found her.
I am sure all the wonderful memories you have of her will forever be
with you and your daughter. Time will heal your pain but your memories
will live on forever.

We lost her today during surgery to have the few teeth she still had left removed. She would have been 18 this spring. I knew there was a chance that she would not make it, and now feel so bad that I was willing to make her go through surgery just to try to have her for another year or two. I feel so bad that I did not just take her in to have her put to sleep. She had not eaten for days, and was so weak. She should have passed in my arms, with me telling her how much I loved her....not alone on the surgery table. I know my vet did all he could....he had been her vet for 16 years, and was almost crying when he came out to tell me.

Let me tell you about her please....I really need to tell somebody. The first time I seen her I had gone to a garage to see the paint job on my nephews car and there was a little girl of 4 swinging this little dog by her front paws...I walked up to her dad and told him...I'll give you $50 for that dog...thank goodness they sold her to me or I dont know what I would have done! I went back to work, and there I seen that there was something around her neck. I went over to the sheet metal shop for them to help me...the sob's had put a bicycle chain around her neck and it was digging into her skin...they had to cut it off with bolt cutters. That was the easy part...than I had to go home and tell my husband that I just bought a dog that would only let me touch her...she tried to take off everybody elses fingers! With time and love she turned into the most wonderful dog you could want. The odd thing was, she still hated little girls and I had to really watch her around them...odder yet was that she picked my 4 yr old daughter for her person. From the day I brought her home, my daughter did not play with her dolls any more. But we did have a dog, in a dress and diaper, wrapped in a blanked being pushed up and down the street in a little girls play baby buggy. My daughter says her first memory that she can remember was the day I brought Betsy home, so it has been really hard on her too. We still have our little yorkie (peanut) and my loveable mut (U.B.) but the house seems so empty. Twice I have already forgoten she is gone and went to get her treat bag for her (that is all I have been able to get her to eat for the last few days). I just miss her soooo much!

Thank you for letting me have a good cry and post my story about Betsy. Not everyone wants to hear someone cry about their dog...lots of people think I am off my rocker because I love my dogs so much....but thats ok with me because they give me and my family so much more than we can ever give back to them.

I am going to try to attach a pic of my babies so you can see how beautiful they all are.

My almost 16 year old Chihuahua passed away September 13th. I don't dwell on all the sorry that's in my heart. I keep thinking of all the good times. They both had a long life and are now playing with each other at rainbow bridge. We will see them again. Warm hugs to you and yours.

Thank you all so much for your words of strenght and encouragement. I cryed through each and every one of them...and it felt soooo good! I think I really needed that. I guess I am on the pitty pot and just not ready to get off of it yet.

Last night was hard, my little yorkie (peanut) had such a hard evening. Do you think dogs know when one in their pack passes? Betsy was their alpha dog and she kept the other 2 in line. And last night peanut just kept crying. I kept asking her if she wanted to play fetch...and would roll her ball (her most favorite game!!!) but she would not go after it....I tried the sweekie toys...nope, no part of that either...she just kept sitting in the middle of the living room looking at me and crying. Than she would walk over to Betsys bed and smell it than back to more crying. I really think she knew that she had to be the big girl now. Today, off and on she just keeps looking and looking for something she just cant seem to find....it breaks my heart because I am just sure she is looking for her.

Well, I am off to play with my other babies for a while, I dont want them to feel forgoten. Thank you all again for reading my post, I so needed to talk about Betsy last night and it felt so good to get it out. You have all been so nice, I will forsure be a regular here and am sure in time I will be posting pics of my other little babies and braging about them.

Aww, that brought tears to my eyes. I so think that they know when a member of their pack passes away. She's just as sad as you are. Give your babies some extra luv'n and kisses and hugs from Baby and me!

I am so sorry to read of your loss. Thank you for sharing Betsy's wonderful story. She sounds like she had a life full of love and fun.

I am sure that your other dogs are mourning the loss of Betsy. Years ago, when we put our yorkie down after 17 years, our German Shepherd was quite sad for awhile.
