Think twice, ten pounds is really not that big. I also paid for and wanted a toy size. Mine are bigger then toy size tho. The smaller they are the more helath problems too. I am so happy with both of mine. IF you want to meet them, come over! I also live in Michigan. We are having a Yorkie Chriastmas Party on Dec 9th at 1:00, you are welcome to come as well, check out Yorkies from 2 pounds to 20 pounds! They are ALL cute & loving. Also think about how good you say he is. Be careful what you wish for or you might get a terror like my Sissy ha ha, I wouldn;t trade her for anything but.... Can she keep me busy cleaning and cleaning some more. I had Chloe first. I was a victim of thinking ALL Yorkies had the same way about them. No way they do not

I could never get rid of an animal once I have had them with me...even for 1 day...I get attached very quickly....and you are right...you could end up with the same size adult and may not have the personality, temperment, and could be horrible to house train...if at all..

Good Luck in your choice...I hope you decide to keep him!

I was told my Grayson will be anywhere from 7 to 10 pounds he is 2 pounds now and is 3 1/2 months old! Which is fine with me I wouldn't care if he was 20 I love him to death! The tiny dogs have alot of health problems! You should stick with your baby who will be healthy and not cost you a bundle in vet bills!

Baxter is 12 lbs, and his momma was 8 and his daddy was 4, so I guess you put 8 and 4 together and you get 12. He is a happy little guy and I am not disappointed that he is that big. I also wanted a small dog, but having a 40 lbs cocker around he seems small and is healthy and happy. I have a friend that has a 3 lb and she is always having to worry about her cause of her size. I will take my 12 lb any day not to wrry so much. Good Luck.

My parents have a yorkie that is 12 lbs. They prefer the bigger ones. They said that they will ALWAYS have the bigger ones because they are more "durable." You don't have to worry about them getting hurt as easily. Anyway, 10 lbs is still a TINY dog! Here is a picture of KoKo, my parent's 12 lbs yorkie girl.

My dear Yorkie Max (Who died only 6 weeks ago) Was 14lb when he was at his sickest, and 15lb when he was at his best, He was NOT overweight it was all muscle, and I wouldn't of given him up for all the money in the world. He was the most special buy in the world. I will never accept he is not with me anymore.

Levi is 11lb and he is adorable, and my new puppy is 9 weeks his Mum and Dad were around 6-7lb so I have no idea if he will follow them or not, but whatever weight he ends up to be, I will love every single OUNZE of it, the bigger the Yorkie the more to love.

I love them all, small, medium, large however they come they are ALL special, individual and the BEST there is in the world.

Please think again you may live to regret it.

I hope you don't take offence at this, because none is intended. I guess I just don't understand why you would consider giving up your baby just because he is bigger than you expected! Does he love you any less because you are not everything he expected?

I have to chime in here. I adopted a nine month old, 3.3lb baby girl and she was sick. I have studied and found that so many tiny dogs have such a higher chance of health issues than larger ones. If I ever buy or adopt another little one, I will definately look for one between 6 and 10 lbs. It is so hard to watch these babies suffer with failing health because of their size! Maybe do some searches on the risks of pups so tiny, then go from there. No offense intended here, just looking to save some heartache, then mine won't be in vain.

When I got Indy I was told that he wouldn't be more than 9lbs. He is now 14.5 and I wouldn't trade him for the world! I was disappointed too when 9lbs came and went, but I love it that he is a little bigger. I don't worry so much when he roughs with my Ger Shep or my Jack Russel.

If you're going to get rid of your dog because you think it's going to be to big (and 10lbs is not big...some newborns are 10lbs!!!) then maybe you shouldn't get a dog at all. Dogs deserve loving owners who will love them for them, not for their size.

I discoverred this site after buying my "teacup" yorkie, Pixie. OK OK Hold your stones-I've learned a lot sice then! LOL! Long story short-She was gorgeous (as you can see from her picture on the side bar) BUT she had soft spot on head, her legs ended up not forming right, constant neurological issues, hypoglycemia... Eeything combined and we lost her after having her less than 8 months. I was devestated. My family & frinds got together & found me Chloe after I stayed depressed for a few months. She turned a year old end of Sept 06 and is a solid 7.5 poulds, 8 if the kids are sneaking her scraps! Best dog I have ever had. Plus we just got her her very own boy toy Joey-eight weeks on Monday, and he is already 2.5 pounds, so I have no doubt he will be what another thread called a "teapot" yorkie (Not a real breed title, just a nickname) It has been wonderful not to have the teeny dog worries! Cloe didn't even have to get any baby teeth pulled which is super common with yorkies. So chin up, give the puppy a chance and your heart will be mush in no time! BTW my in laws 6 pounder just broke her leg jumping off the loveseat if you need any further proof bigger=sturdier&less heartache! Best of luck to you both!

Ozzie weighs 13.5 as of his last vet visit a few weeks ago.
Doesn't seem like he weighs that much until you pick him up! He has gained a pound or two since getting neutered last year, but he's still not obese. (Vet marks chart "large" over heavy and obese options.)

His parents were both small, 6-7 pounds. And our first Yorkie never weighed more than 7 pounds his whole life.

I am with all of you who prefer the "bigger" guys. And the comment about being more "durable" is dead on. Our first Yorkie barely weighed 2 pounds when we brought him home and I was terrified. Ozzie weighed 3.3 at 11 weeks when we got him but doubled that by six months.

No offense, but I've gained between 10 and 15 pounds since Ozzie came home in 1997. I sure hope he doesn't want to trade me!
