| Anyone in Peoria area....... Hi, I just found this forum for Illinois. We have two Male Yorkies, which I call my children with fur...... Having quite a time finding a groomer a good Vet since we just moved here. Just wondered if anyone else was in this area????? Having some problems with agression in the one male and they want to put him on puppy prozac. Think I will get a second opinion. Great to find people from Illinois..... who loves their yorkies as much as we do.

| I live in Florida now but am from the Peoria area -- a Limestone H.S. alumni. Welcome to YT -- you will love it here. Beware though, it can be addicting!

| A small world it is -- ever smaller with the internet. 3 Peoria area people on YT -- amazing! I haven't been back in a long time but still have a lot of family up there.

| Me too...we still go there quite often. We love the waterfront restaurants and the antique mall there. We checked into buying a waterfront condo above the antique mall but they were all pre-sold so we missed out. Peoria appears to be trying to come back through it's downtown and it's making some great progress. |

| I suppose the riverboat gambling helped with that effort. When I was in high school, one of our proms included a ride on the old Julia Belle Swain. Memories!

The gambling boat doesn't go out anymore...it's permanantly moored to the dock. We went there for our anniversary a couple years ago...played all day on $20.00...we got bored so we cashed in and headed home. | |

| it's great to see others are in this area.... Thought maybe I was the only one. Peoria hasn't changed, in fact it maybe has gotten worse in some respects. Our murders for this year are at an all time high and the downtown area has gone to the pots...... as far as I'm concerned. The gambling boat has done nothing for this area except make more bankruptcy and our city governement just squabbles but never gets nothing done. It once was a great city...... Wish I was in Florida.... it is bitter cold......

| Wow, Peoria! Had we stayed, I would have gone to Richwoods High. But we moved to Chillicothe and I graduated high school from there. Lived in Peoria for a couple of years in the 80's and then moved to Wisconsin and have never been back. My brothers are in Bloomington so I go there several times a year. Too bad the town sounds like it can't get it's act together. Nothing new about that though. Is Caterpillar still the main employer? |

| Clocey...you're right...Peoria was once a great city and it has gone down hill over the last 30 to 35 years or so. I used to walk from Glendale Ave. to my friend's house on Spring St. and back home again at 9 or 10 at night, by myself, and sometimes we even walked all the way downtown but I wouldn't try it now even in broad daylight! We moved to Ocala, Florida for a year and I absolutely loved it. Medical issues brought us back to Illinois but I'll be going back to Florida one way or another! I hate the cold! Tink's Mom...Yes, I think CAT is still #1 in the area. Richwood's huh? That was our rival! I grew up along the river on South Rome road towards Chillicothe and I lived in Normal for 5 years...now we're about an hour south of there. It really is a small world! |

| My2boyz, you are right about Peoria. I use to walk to Glen Oak Park with my other little Yorkie who has since passed on, but you can't do that now. I lived on Frye and now all the beautiful homes are taken over by slum landlords and made into apartments...... I had to move because of high crime area. I don't live in Peoria but 25 miles west of there, but get the news all the time. It is a small world..... I am looking for a vet that knows how to treat Yorkies... They are a different breed and have special needs. My little Woody is on Prozac which I don't know if that is the correct thing for him. We are getting a second opinion.

| That's a shame that they let those lovely homes go like that. We lived in Rolling Acres when it was first built in the 60s and used to walk over to Sheridan Village shipping mall strip all the time by ourselves. And to the pool for swimming. Near Sipp School. Once in a while mom would let us take the bus downtown if there were three of us to keep an eye on each other cause we were all 10-12 years old. Boy that brings back the memories! |

| Clocey...I had a friend who lived on Frye! There were some nice homes there at one time. Oh...and Glen Oak Park...we used to take our family picture there every Easter Sunday in front of the flower house ( I know there's a real name for it but I can't think of it right now!) and I don't even know how many times we went sledding on those hills when they closed them up for winter. Tink's Mom...I spent a lot of time at Sheridan Village! We also had friends at our church from Rolling Acres. We went to Averyville Baptist Church and the school there. We just got home from Canton (just West of Peoria) a little while ago and 74 East out of Peoria turned into black ice. We saw so many cars in the ditches and a guy in a pick up spun around behind us and went in too. We slowed down and took it wasy but I called 911 to get some help but they were all tied up with a semi that jack knifed and some cars that turned over on I55 where the 2 come together on the West side...it was a mess and I'm sooo glad to be home! I tell ya...this Central Illinois weather is something...yesterday we got caught in a tornado and today a small blizzard with black ice...you gotta love it! |
