Oh Piccolo, I am sorry you are limping:confused:. Lisa please let us know what you find out at the vets. |
Thanks so much for your kind posts. Piccolo went to the vet today because of her slight limp. He diagnosed her with a luxating patella on her back right leg. :sickie: He said she will probably have to have surgery in the future. I hope to read more about this on YT, because I do not know much about this condition. Again, thanks for thinking about us. But for now, she is back to walking normally, and taking a big nap after her "scary" visit to the doc. Lisa and Piccolo |
Boy that luxating patella does seem to be very common with these dogs. There is a lot of information on here...have seen a lot of threads on this. How old is Piccoli again? I had a quick scare with Winston yesterday. I was weeding in my backyard that is fenced and I had just gotten started when Winston was gone in a complete silent and quick flash:eek:! I kept calling and calling his name and could hear not a peep from him. I didn't know if he was still in the enclosed area or out of the fence. My shih tzus being mostly white I can spot easily, but it's like Winston is sort of camaflouged with the darker color and small size. I had just come inside to call family to help recruit finding him in an almost panic, when there he was at the front door. Oh my gosh. My heart skipped a few beats during that episode. the other bad part was he had gotten a bath earlier and his tags werent on him yet. We have talked about putting concrete ledge around the fence on the ground....Pokey will try and dig out. I'm so frustrated, my fence doesn't really do it's job. Packer is my only one that hasnt figured a way out:confused: |

Deanne I think it is the knees and common in these dogs...Didn't mean to answer for Lisa, but was just going to post to you Deane and saw the question, but don't know specifics on it. Maybe Lisa E. can fill us in more when she learns more. Deanne, I thought when you posted Demotte earlier, that I had heard of it. I looked on my adress book and I do know a girl named Jennie that lives there also. What made me think it was a small town, was when I had to look up her address, there was no street adress...you just put Demotte;)!! She is young-20s probably...have no idea what your age is but wouldnt it be funny if you knew her!! Small world. |

We have lived in Demotte for about 5 years, but we are currently trying to sell our house. I'm sick of driving forever just to get to the grocery store because the one in town charges to much.:) I'm 32, by the way. Don't think that I know Jennie. I was wondering about he knee thing because my vet made a point of checking my yorkies knees. |
Did your yorkie's knees check out okay? That is good the vet was checking....was it just preventatively or was your yorkie having problems too? |
Did your yorkie's knees check out okay? That is good the vet was checking....was it just preventatively or was your yorkie having problems too? the vet said that knee problems are a common problem. he said that they seemed ok, but the knee issues usually don't come on until they are a little older. he said that they would check them on the puppies yearly visits. the exam only consisted of him feeling around on the knees. |
Lisa K., I'm so glad you found Winston so quickly. What a smart dog to come to the front door! Piccolo some how got out of our backyard, when she was a puppy. I thought I was going to have heart failure. But, she was just like your Winston, she was sitting by the back gate, by our deck, waiting to get back inside. Glad our furbabies are not runners! Deanne, you asked about Luxating Pattelas. Lisa K. was right about the knee. What I have found out is it is something like a slipped kneecap for a human. I'm glad your vet checked your puppy's knees. My vet also moved Piccolo's kneecap around and asked me to feel a certain clicking movement, which I guess means she has LP in that leg. He also gave her an x-ray, which did not show up the LP, but showed no broken bones. At least she does not have to have surgery at this time. Anyway, it sounds like your puppy has great knees! Again, thanks everyone for your concern. :thumbs up Lisa and Piccolo |
Oh, one more thing, Lisa K. Tell me about the Crazy Club.... Piccolo and I would love to know. It looks so interesting in your signature. Lisa and Piccolo |
Hi Lisa, did Piccolo enjoy her nap;)!! Yes the crazy club is for anyone that dresses their yorkies!! So you can just be in it they told me!! If you want to try to just copy and paste the signature you can try that off of mine. If that doesn't work try bringing up the thread for crazy club, and there might be directions in there, but I think I was just able to copy it from one of the other members signature. It is kinda fun isn't it with the rolling eyeballs!!:D |
A little info.... and if you need it, a ortho vet surgeon in Cincy. Quote:
Also, if your vet suggests you go to a orthopedic vet, I can suggest an AWESOME one in Cincinnati. That is who we used. You have to have a vet referral to get in to see him, but he is well worth it. |

Shelby and Semour - Thank you for the information on LP. I will definitely look at your threads and I appreciate your help. My vet did not tell me Piccolo's grade of LP and I did not know enough to ask yesterday. He just said she would need surgery in the future, but not right now. I would like to know the name of the orthopedic vet. You can PM with this name, if that's okay. It has been a little frightening, thinking about surgery. Lisa K. I think Piccolo needs to join the Crazy Club. She love to dress for all occasions. If you don't mind, I think I will copy yours, after we join. Lisa and Piccolo |
