| Frustrated that I fell into the trap! I was talking to the vet today about little Marcus because she takes care of the puppies where I bought him. I had planned on getting our newest yorkie from a breeder and just happened to be in the petstore to buy food for our oldest. When I saw Marcus Aurelius sitting there, I couldn't say no. I had a long talk with the owner of the store so I felt certain that he wasn't from a puppymill. She assured me that they do not use puppymills, only local reputable breeders. I am VERY anti-puppymill!!! Well my vet told me that they do use puppymills and it is possible that he could be from one. I could never love him any less, I just feel sorta guilty to know now that I have contributed to the horrific cause of puppymills. My vet told me not to be upset and that I should see getting him as saving him. I know that if someone else had gotten him, they would never take care of him the way I do, but I just can't help to feel disgusted with myself. I am kind of embarrassed to post this, but I had to get it off my chest.

| Don't beat yourself up about it. Just enjoy your baby. You can't change what's already done. Your vet is right. |

| A lot of people don't realize that petstore puppies all come from puppymills and backyard breeders. Now that you know, you won't make the mistake again. It would be great if we could find a way to educate everyone about petstores so everyone would know about petstores but a lot of people just don't know. A lot of petstore employees say they don't come from puppymills - just local breeders - but they're not going to tell you the truth because they would lose a lot of sales that way. Don't feel bad though - you didn't know - and you already have your baby so all you can do is love and take care of him now and do all you can to educate others about petstores and puppymills

| I bought a shih tzu from our pet store almost 10 years ago, before I knew all the info on pet store dogs..Anyway, after that and hearing of all the sad things that go on with pet store dogs, I realized a good reputable breeder would have NO problem selling her dogs..a friend that lives in California bought a yorkie from a pet store, she didn't even get to have him 3 years, he brought so much joy to her life, but she ended up having to have him put to sleep, I can't remember what it was he had, but, she knew he was never going to get better..I hope and pray your little guy is as healthy as my 10 year old shih tzu |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I got my Pom from a similar situation and she was an impulse but by my husband after I lost my last Yorkie. It happens don't feel bad. I always tell Maya my pom she would have ended up in a shelter if I hadn't gotten her. Lets justsay she has a lot of bad habits.

| I think what's done is done, and like you said... this baby is going to get so much love from you during his lifetime. So maybe your Vet is right, just look at it like you saved this little guy from an awful situation. You trusted a store employee, that obviously lied to you, allowing you to adopt this Yorkie in good faith (on your part). Just love him and cherish him. I do have to say though, that I wish more than anything, that laws be instituted banning the sale of these animals in pet stores. I mean they get plenty of business selling goldfish, supplies, food, etc....... Lauren

| The first dog my husband and I got was from a pet store. I had heard bad things about pet stores so I made sure and they said that she was from a local breeder in the area. No way do they use puppymills - ever. When we got her papers she was from Kansas. She was too young and could not be around other dogs. We ended up rehoming her in an only dog home. Now that I raise puppies...there is NO WAY I would ever even THINK of selling to a pet store. So really I do think they are all from puppy mills.

| Best of luck with your new baby. You will give him all the love he probably wouldn't have received, if you hadn't "saved" him!

| Please don't feel badly. My Luna came from a pet store as well, and would have died if we hadn't bought her. My hubby insisted, though I knew about puppymills and tried to explain why it's not good to buy from pet stores, he wouldn't budge. After almost losing her and her being so sick and not wanting to eat and all, NOW he understands it Of course, you were misled by the owner, but just think---you saved that baby, who may have ended up with someone that doesn't know how to care for these little ones as well as you do.

| You can look at it as giving your baby a loving and safe home. You getting him saved his life. He will be cherished and spoiled. You did a really good thing. Feel good about it. |

| Sorry the pet store owner conned you. There is one easy thing to remember though, no reputable breeder would ever sell their pups to a pet store of any kind!
