| cold and winter weather This will be my first winter with my the boys. I have not any idea about boots. How do you measure for them and is there one better than the other. What about coats, sweaters. Do they make them with a thing to hook there lead to. I need all the help I can get. Should they only be outside for a short amount of time. We have been taking walks at least 3 times a day. But with the cold here and winter around the corner Do I keep going for walks with them or only take them out to potty only. please I would love to hear how and what everybody else does during the winter.

| I have two boys and they LOVE the snow! I only let them out for like 5 -10 mins bc they refuse to wear sweatshirts/jackets! I don't worry much about thier bodies getting cold, but I do worry about their paws. When their paws get cold they sit down where they are and cry so I usually have to go get them and bring them in! This is my 3rd winter though and they love the snow! don't worry so much! too much worrying will only lead to disaster! You'll know what you need for them when you see them out there! I knew my boys would never wear boots when they wouldn't keep on a sweatshirt for more than ooohhh 3 mins!

| I don't know anything about dog boots, but there are so many YT vendors on here that make such cute fleece hoodies, coats, winter weather wear for our furbabies. There is something called a D Ring that is usually attached to the back of the outfit that the leash can hook to. Once you go to the section under the Forums about the YT members who sell clothing for our furbabies, your Visa or checkbook will be hurting, I promise you. Oh and of course you will need to buy some blankets to keep them warm this winter also. I think if you dress them warm, they will be ok for short periods of time outside, depending on how cold it gets. Actually my Lucky, loves to eat snow.

YT 500 Club Member | How big our your babies? Ours weighs about seven pounds, and she is fine to go out for a minute or two to potty, without a coat. She loves snow. If she is out very long, she does have a coat. But she seems to do much better when it is cold than when she gets hot. We don't leave her out any longer than we can stand it ourselves, without a coat. Unless you will be out for long periods of time, or unless they are very tiny, they will be just fine.

| I am wondering the same thing---my 1st winter with my yorkie!! My chihuahua wont walk when it is cold and quickly runs out to potty then back in. He is 7 and hides under the bed if i dare dress him-!!! lol But with Ollie (yorkie) he likes his sweaters!!! So i plan on waiting and seeing how he does..... but i have found since it has been raining the last 2 days that he prefers to potty in my dining room rather than getting wet!!! And here i really thought he was potty trained outside--lol. |

| well we definitly get cold weather here! And for Layla winter is HER season... she just gets so hot in the summer and she LOVES sniffing around in the winter! she does not wear booties... we tried... she kicks them off.... she always wears a sweater and a jacket at the same time. I know Old Navy has sweaters with holes for the D-ring. We get sweater from Sonja at Pocomutt and if you ask her she makes a hole for a d ring. Layla has a jacket from Petedge that has a hole but her other one doesn't.. but it's no biggy.. we just attach the leash and it sticks out the top. We still go for long walks eveyr night even when it is snowing.. Layla comes... we bundle her up and she walks until she tells us she has had enough (usually digs her heels in) and then we will pick her up and put her in our coat. This year we have a backpack for her. we will heat up her heating disk and bring it with us to put in the backpack for when she needs a break. let your pups tell you when they have had enough. you would NEVER guess a yorkie would be a winter dog but they can be as long as you dress appropriately |

| i think the brand is snugglesafe. It is pink... i got it at petsmart... you heat it up for about 2 mins... it stays warm for up to 10 hour.. i usually put it in layla's crate at night under her blankets on one side of the crate... when she wakes up in the morning it is stil warm! |

| I love the sound of the heating disc! This is my first year with Bella so winter is new to me. I have already got her sweaters and jackets to wear. She uses pee pads for potty but I still would love to take her on walks on the nicer days during winter. She refuses to walk on pavement, snow should prove to be interesting with her

| Since we will be going to Alaska this winter, I have bought parkas, fleece jogging suits and boots. Here is a store with excellent prices and "fast" delivery! The boots I bought are xxx-small. These are 1 1/2", just perfect for Yorkies. http://www.jbpet.com/index.php?main_...ndex&cPath=503 I bought two of these parkas. http://www.jbpet.com/index.php?main_...roducts_id=538 |

| Do you think a Yorkie would be cold in the winter just lying on a fluffy bed with no PJs on to sleep? Obvioiusly we have the heat on in our home, but we are nicely covered in comforters and wear PJs when we sleep. I wasn't sure if Yorkie needed a blanket over them.... not sure Kiki would keep a blanket over her anyhow and I know the one time I tried Pjs, she pulled one leg out of the hole and was stuck trying to get out of them. | I have about 5 pairs (or should I say 10 pairs because a set is 4 instead of 2? lol) of boots/shoes for Bitsy. She has the all-weather Muttluks and the fleece lined Muttluks (Size Ittybitty). She also has booties that I got from Beyondspoiled and 2 pairs of fashion booties I got off ebay. The booties she hates to wear the most are the fashion ones I got from ebay. The one she minds the least are from Beyondspoiled. The all-weather muttluks she isn't too thrilled about, but I think in time she will be ok with it. I haven't tried the fleeced lined muttluks yet because it hasn't been cold enough. I think most dogs hate wearing things on their feet, so you should start them young, a few minutes at a time. Bitsy has no problems wearing clothing, but I can tell she isn't too thrilled with the booties. |

| I second the beyondspoiled.com boots! Mine wouldn't wear the muttlucks. My favorite coats are Fido Fleece & Apache River because they protect their tummies. They will adapt. Mine shiver a lot when it starts to get cold, but after the first snow they only need coats/boots if it's a deep freeze or if there is fresh, wet snow I don't feel like cleaning off when they come in. We stop walking when it gets cold and windy. They just run outside to pee and run back in. They have to go about 10 feet to get to the grass, but Loki generally goes in the mulch right next to the porch in the winter. When it's all covered in snow it all looks and smells the same and they don't have to find the perfect spot.

| my dogs are usually dressed this will be laceys first winter also waiting to see how it goes. as far as the boot go i would try to put them on her at least when you go for walks if people have salted, the salt can ruin their pads if they walk in it to much other then that i put a winter parka on them if its close to or under 0 outside when its warmer then that i just do fleece or just clothes but what ever you do it all gets wet grrr.
