| not impossible...but it shouldn't be expected. especially if you are getting a 5 month old puppy that you have not had since he was 10-12 weeks old. to bring a new 5 month old pup into your home and expect perfection is just not right. i don't care how you slice it. now..on the other hand, if you get a 5 month old puppy and he IS perfectly trained...then that is great. but you should never EXPECT it and get irate and "raging mad" when it doesn't happen.

(and like everyone had already said before, it takes work in the beginning-but you should already anticipate this (somewhat) from the start, i think.. knowing its a puppy and all )And i think, for the most part, if you are very consistent with them from the start, (with the training process) it should come naturally to them.. (not to say they dont do what they want sometimes anyways-haha. ..but for the most part!! ) oh and along with being consistent.. patience and lots of positive praises(treats, etc.) too!! basically what you said.. if you give them your love(time and attention included) they will be more inclined to WANT to learn from you and appreciate/respect you also!! avery is only 6.5months old.. but i have learned so much from this site!! (even though it hasnt been that long.. it is sometimes hard for me to remember back to when we first got her.) so i just try and post any information i may have, in hopes it may help someone out? and i know you all agree with me(as it was said before)that the compassion is there for the newbies with questions, etc.. its just i totally agree when its the ones that are bothered by a weeks progression, etc. and dont show any compassion only negativity towards a new puppy, who shouldnt know any better than what its taught anyways. ![]() oh and also..something else to make it easier(as a new member/some old too -ive been guilty, im sure!! haha.) i would recommend doing a search before you post a pretty broad question-you get results faster and alot of times very thorough answers because there have already been so many responses to older threads. then it allows the other posted threads not be overlooked.(heres a funny example for instance.. the other day there were two threads one right above the other(i actually forget the topic, sorry)but they were the same exact questions.. and the titles were almost identical too!!haha. i was like no way.. seriously?! haha.)oh well whatever.. no worries. i try not to take things seriously.. life just shouldnt be that stressful.. haha. but you all catch my drift right??ok im blabbing.. off to bed..

| I'm sorry to read about all of this negativity. Whenever Linus does something that I don't understand, I can't wait to post on Yorkietalk to see if anyone has had the same experience or has any advice. I'd hate to think that people were getting annoyed, thought that I was just complaining, or did not understand what I was signing up for. I look at Yorkietalk as a friendly place where we all share our love for our little four-pawed families, and I would be sad to think that people would be critical to anyone. If someone is taking the time to join and post on the site, you're probably not giving them enough credit by saying that they don't love their little babies. |

If you have a problem or something to post that is great But when people come on and all they do is Complain about what there dog does and they ask how to stop it, and then Say" I have tried EVERYTHING, nothing works. I regret getting the dog every day."I am sure you get what I am sayin.. You come and share Good and bad and take advice. Basicly if a poster comes on and all they do Is trash talk the breed. Then all of the Yorkie lovers here get upset. We Love to help and see all the sweet Yorkies out there | |

| This is one thread : she is not the OP There are two others: go to her user CP and click on her recent threads one about urgent help and the other about thank god I'm getting him neutered (and this is after in the first thread she said it is against the law to do this where she lives until 12 month) read the other two and every bit of this one and you will see what we are talking about. There is not a soul on this site of good hearted people who will not help anyone with a problem pls believe me. I do not believe there even is a dog in her case, she is just having fun with us. JMHO and many others. ha

| [quote=Superstarkba;1457170]Would someone come onto a Yorkshire Terrior forum, knowing that we love these dogs to death. AND tell us they regret getting there dog because of a training issue. I don't know about you, but to me it makes me really mad!!! For example, potty training can't happen over night, and sometime it take UP TO a year. It something that you have to work at. I am just tired of ppl coming on here and complaining about there dogs. Sorry just needed to vent!!!! Theres a lot of issues going on with a few ppl here at YT.. and its sad.[/quote. It makes me disgusted, they don't need dogs, much less children. It is much easier to train a dog to the potty than a child. Let someone adopt the yorkie, they are the most loving dogs on this earth, I have had poodles, maltese, maltipoo's, austrailian sheppards, etc, Nothing like the Yorkie can give.

I know this has already been responded to but I wanted to add my little bit too. I hate for people new to the forum to think we don't like hearing questions regarding training so this can't be reiterated enough IMO. This thread was definitely directed to a specific few and one had already been banned I believe. I have gotten tons of wonderful advice from fellow YTers. Everyone here is so generous with there knowledge and I'm always so happy if I can offer advice. It's just awful though when someone posts as though they can't stand their dog. So... post away! We love to help.

| Just have to add my 2cents. Buddy arrived nearly 12 years ago. He practically trained himself. We used training pads, which he took to immediately; but he soon wanted to go outside. Not only outside the house, but outside his large fenced yard. When Katie arrived a year later, Buddy trained her. She followed him around, out thru the doggy door, and into the yard. We laughed until we ached as she tried to lift a back leg to imitate Buddy. Yorkies are great! |

| My 2cents about training. Buddy arrived nearly 12 years ago. With a little patience, he practically trained himself. He went right the training pads, but soon wanted to go outside. When Katie arrived a year later, Buddy trained her. She followed him arround and mimiced him, including trying to lift a back leg. We lost Katie to Cushings, Buddy is our little gem. Just had to tell how easy they were to train. |
