| From puppy coat to adult Does anyone else obsess over trying to figure out what their pup is going to look like when they have their adult coat? Regardless of what Bella's coat color ends up to be she will be gorgeous in my impartial eyes but I can't help but try and picture what she will look like. Is there any way to have any idea whether they will be black/blue/grey.... have a light tan face and head.. keep a bit of black on their forehead???

| Looking at the parents and grandparents helps. I think it's hard to know. When I got Lacy at 10 weeks she had a lot of gold coming in on her face but silver on the top of her head. My friend bought a puppy that was only 8 weeks and was dark black and tan still. I just knew mine would end up being all silvery and hers would end up dark. Well the opposite happened. Lacy is almost black on her back and her face is almost a red-gold. she's still pretty dark. My friends yorkie ended up being silvery all over.

| I know exactly what you mean. I looked through a yorkie book and online at pics just trying to imagine what Ollie would grow up to look like!! Finally i could see his roots turning grey and now at 7 months he is grey and tan BUT now his roots look to be turning black....I even took pic after pic trying to get his eyes to glow a color so i might know if he would be silky or cottony... so you are so not alone. Keep us updated .... |

There is a myth that a blue/green eye glow means a silky coat and a red/orange glow means a cottony coat but I don't know if that's really true or not

| How old is Bella? Usually the earlier they "break" color down the neck and back, the lighter they will be. Usually if the top of the head goes from black to platinum first, it will be a silky coat. If the top of the head is very gold at an early age, usually they will be black and tan with an incorrect coat. Sometimes, it the top of the head is a gray color, the color on the head may never clear and be smutty. But, its all in how the genes line up. Its nice to see the parents and grandparents. These are all generalities and no dog is the same. Lynn "Breaking" color at 12 weeks is early. I always hope they will "break" much later. By this time, I already know if the hair is silky or not. |

| She is 18 weeks old. I think she will have a silky coat and am very pleased with that. The top her her head is breaking silver and the back of her neck and back are not breaking any new color yet, although the "roots" look silver it isn't growing out into the hair shaft so I think it's just her skin that gives it that appearance when it's parted. I guess the one thing I can be certain about is that she won't be purple
