Looking at the parents and grandparents helps. I think it's hard to know. When I got Lacy at 10 weeks she had a lot of gold coming in on her face but silver on the top of her head. My friend bought a puppy that was only 8 weeks and was dark black and tan still. I just knew mine would end up being all silvery and hers would end up dark. Well the opposite happened. Lacy is almost black on her back and her face is almost a red-gold. she's still pretty dark. My friends yorkie ended up being silvery all over.
