| Can two female Yorkies live peacefully together? We're thinking of getting a playmate for Sugar and I've been leaning more towards a boy because I was afraid that two females together might be aggressive or territorial with each other. Am I way off base here? Can two females live together and be best buds? Sugar has been neutered and the new one will be also. I'm also hoping to adopt through a rescue so it most likely won't be a puppy so I don't know if that would make a difference. I think Sugar would probably be happiest with a playmate who was out of the puppy biting stage. Thanks!

| Im confused is Sugar a male or a female? Females are spayed, males are neutered. I think two females are fine if they are spayed. Its the intact ones that can fight

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I have 2 females, they aren't spayed yet and they don't fight. They play fight but not seriously, if they fight seriously it's because one hurt another by mistake and i will take them apart. But they are both very calm and get along

| I have two females, both intact, who get along just fine. They even shared taking care of puppies. But it just depends on the individual dog, I guess. Good luck with whatever you decide.

| Thank you for all of the responses. It seems like every rescue/shelter Yorkie I find is gone by the time I inquire about it. Guess that just shows how popular they are. I know there's one out there waiting for us though. I wish I could talk my hubby into actually buying a puppy but he won't let me spend that much money. He doesn't have a problem w/ spending money on Sugar now that we have her and he spoils her rotten but he can't get past the initial sticker shock on a puppy. I'd be happy going either way. I really enjoyed getting Sugar and being able to spoil her. She wasn't abused in any way by her previous owner, but she was in her crate the majority of the time and was only "free" for a couple of hours a day. Now she's only in her crate a couple of hours per week and she's so happy. I can't wait to find a little cuddle-bug to be a playmate/best friend for her.

| I think you'd be better off with an older spayed female or a little boy. My two boys are neutered and they get along great. Penny will be spayed next week, and I'm praying that will calm her down so she can get along with the others.

| Kalina is intact and her "friend", a female Yorkie, is spayed. They love each other.

| Sorry for reviving another old thread...but I've been new to other forums before and have been totally flamed for not using the "search" feature and doing my research first before posting. From what I've seen here though people are quite respectful and so I doubt that will happen, but better to err on the side of being conservative...Anyways, on to my post: Before going to a breeder and getting a puppy we thought maybe we would first try local area rescue shelters to find an older yorkie in need of a nice permanent home... This would be a companion for our 3+ month old female yorkie, Reeses. She is not fixed yet, but we are planning to after she turns 6 months. Having said all that, unlike going to a breeder, we would not have much choice on age, sex and when we would be bringing the yorkie home. The 50/50 chance we find the opportunity to get another female yorkie, what difficulties do we face with the new little one being older and of the same sex? What should we watch out for? Is it the norm, or even possible, to bring your yorkie there to meet the potential new family member to see if there is any "chemistry"? Are most of the multi-yorkie owners here from them being litter-mates, or being related in any way? Does it help that they are related, or is that not such a big deal? Ideally I'm envisioning we find a 3-7 year old fixed yorkie male, but in reality we'll probably find a 3 year old female. Thanks for any help you can provide! |

| Yes 2 females can live together I have 4 female yorkies. All related to each other though. Mom- Cozy 1st litter offspring- Roxy and Zoey 2nd litter offspring- Lucy At one point all were unspayed- NO fights. Only Lucy is unspayed at present. I had the other 3 spayed for various reasons. At one point I had 2 male dogs (BIchon and golden) unaltered as well. No fights- Neutered both later on though- Afraid of mistaken breeding w/ Female yorkie-Cozy. Neutered prior to her going into her 1st heat.
