| clarification with ear taping? Hi everyone! I'm new and we have had a wonderful yorkie who is 11 weeks old and I just realized that this little furball has floppy ears. From reading the boards here and searching the internet I have read that I should shave them and tape them but I really don't understand exactly how to tape them. Can someone give me the "for dummies" version....lol. Do I fold his little ears and tape them up? Thanks for any help you can offer, I won't do it without a better understanding because I don't want to hurt my baby. Thanks |

| Welcome to YT. I hope someone will be able to answer your question. I'm sure they will, because there's a lot of questions about this.

| Your Yorkie's ears will stand up on their own. They dont' need to be taped. Max's ears didn't totally stand up til he was about 14-16 weeks old....one ear was standing up at 12 weeks, but the other one was flopped over til he was 14-16 weeks old, and one day...presto! Two ears fully erect.

Carson's ears came up on his own, and stayed that way (unless they were taped at the breeders before I got him...I'm not sure on that... Kimberly?) Good luck! deb | |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | When I decided to tape my Lexie's ears, I looked on a few websites and did see the one referred to on this post, but I made it a little easier on myself and just used masking tape around each ear separately (after shaving the hair on the ears short). Left them on for a week at a time; the ears flopped back down after a day or so a few times, but then you just re-tape for another week or so. Your persistance will pay off , mine did!

| I rolled guaze..place inside the ear..used medical tape and wrapped around the ear..It is ok if you fold the edges of the ears some..after a few days cut them off..be careful not to cut the ear..soak with water makes it easier to get off..and repeat as needed....worked every time for me

| We have the same problem here. I am concerned. Our puppy, we have the mommy too, has one ear up and one down. It has been this way for a few weeks now. I thought about taping them. I am afraid the mommy will chew the tape off but I may have to keep them separated. They like to restle with each other. I am beginning to wonder if the mommy did damage to it. I don't know. Her one ear that stays up, went down over the weekend and I shaved them and trimmed them again and it went back up. But that one ear is just flopped over. I may try taping it and see what happens. The mommy's ears are just fine, both up and always have been since we got her. I was also wondering exactly how to tape them. I guess I can give it a try. Thanks for this question and to those of you who answered. |

| I did the whole taping thing. They fell back down again after time. My Roxy was born in April and her ears were not standing when I got her in Aug. She now has one ear up all the time and the other almost there. Did you lil one loose all his teeth yet? Another YT member told me about the prob of them teething and that is why the ear's cant stand. They need more calcium like a tee spoon of cottage cheese which is also good for their coat. She loves it.

| thanks everyone, looks like we are going to have a cottage cheese eating, ear shaved, taped yorkie. I figure it's worth a try and if they never stand up that's fine too |
