| ![]() You really have to stop this behavior right away, even if it means taking all his things away. He needs to learn the drop and leave it command. Have they taken him for any formal training. Sounds like he's trying to be the Alpha in the house.

| ![]() Wow, I hope this doesn't start happening with Tobey- he is also 10 months old. He steals things he knows he is not supposed to have and then darts around as we chase him until we get him cornered then he drops it and hangs his head. If he started being aggressive It would take me totally by surprise like it did your daughter. They are doing a lot of things right- I also make tobey do a "sit" or "down" before he gets a toy, treat, food, or let outside into the backyard to play. I feel like I have done a good job establishing that I am the boss, not him, but it seems like this behavior with your daugther's dog was unexpected when they were trying to do everything right. You've gotten some good advice- i don't know about trying to pretend like you are a dog, but the drop it command is one that we've been working on for MONTHS!! he's a quick learner in every command except that one. Good luck!

| ![]() Here is a great article that explains it far better than I can. There is also a book out there called "Mine!" that is really good. http://www.clickersolutions.com/arti...ctguarding.htm alexbnieto I don't mean to pick on you. I've just seen how the wrong type of dog can react to that type of correction. It's just too dangerous. A lady in puppy class with us had to put her first dog down because it object guarded and she was told by a trainer to use corrections for it. Many dogs guard because they fear you will take their stuff. By using a physical correction, they learn that their fear is justified! Sadly, her dog got worse, not better.

| ![]() That is good advise. Thanks for reminding me of picking up a toy or snack. I would be scared to death if Deiter would start that. So Thank you to everybody for all the tips to keep him happy, and how to share.

I read that article a long time ago when I did some research into this problem. It was very helpful. Thanks for posting it again. | |
