I had the same question.. I had the same question about why breeders charge so much for their Yorkie babies. When talking to my breeder.. I reallize what goes into really breeding the dogs. You have to reallize all the vet checks for each puppy.. the vet checks for mom.. Any medication if needed for mom to ensure she is healthy enough to care for them. All of her puppies had all dew claws removed, tails docked. The costs of creating the pen to keep the pups in. When ever I was at the Breeders house, there were toys for the pups to play with. The expense of WEE pads, for training, The food, not only for mom but for babies as well as they begin to come off mom. Not to mention if there was any time loss from work for the breeder during the birth. I feel if you do not want to pay the price of a Yorkie that is not guaranteed to be healthy.. then don't purchase one. " You get what you paid for!" Completely true. My Baby and my mom's baby ( we have brothers) are the best. They were very well socialized, played with and loved. I absolutely do not mind paying the amount I paid for my boys! They are the best. :aimeeyork |

Like i said once i am in your shoes maybe i will see it differently, but for now I don't, and I know that that will shape what i do when and if i breed in the future. |

Its not the money you pay its the breeder, and when you find one you need to find another and another and compare all three of them no matter what price your going to pay, because what I am seeing when it comes down to it, when the breeder is good then u will get a good health pup. Do research and compare and buy what you can afford or wait and save. Many find one breeder and don't compare and then get caught in scams and with unhealthy babies. ok thas all i just don't want someone on a lower income to get discouraged when they read comments like that.. u know? kisses! |

So experiencing both sides......I can make intelligent decisions with each litter. |
i didnt read all the post but i do agree that the rept breeders that charge the high amounts do push others to the puppymill or byb breeders that everyone disapproves of, because of the price difference, then you of course have the 50/50 chance of having a well bred yorkie. So if they want that stopped they may want to considered lowering the cost. and i understand that alot of people go above and beyond on the testing and ultrasounds and the xrays and the vet exams. But i think there are ways to cut cost and save future owners on the price of puppies...you can do your own vaccines its cheaper and very easy to do. charging for the cost of your time...too me thats fun why would you charge people for the time it took you to raise the puppies? (if i understood that right) it was your decision to raise yorkies, it what you wanted to do. i dont see where charging for what you wanted to do is is right. i can see charging more if you paid for a c-section but if you had 2 or 3 ultra sounds and tons of xrays that was your choice, its not always neccessary to do that, especially more then once per pregnancy. and the snobbinsh attitudes about who deserves a yorkie and who doesnt is not fair to other individuals which just push them to those dreadful byb or pm. in my opinion breeders can be the fault for the byb and pm |

I do my own vaccinations/tails and dew claws. I won't skimp on testing. If I did put in the cost of my time.....it would raise the price. My time is never factored in. And yes, the bottom line is these are my pups and it's my choice of where my pups go. Whether the reputable breeder is here or gone....The PM and BYBer will always be there. And if people chose to go there...then they must suffer the consequences of their choice. Again. Take a look at Jeff Dane's prices....and talk to people that have had the misfortune of buying dogs from Mills and BYBers |
This thread is becoming a bit tense....anybody got any good jokes. hey breeders can you recommend a way to cut costs |

To know me is to love me! I keep each female in a cardboard box, where they pee, poo, eat and sleep. Easy clean up throw the box away, once a month. My males are free to roam, may the best man win! All my kids are rarely socialized, they bite the mailman and the kennel inspector. Play in my house is an annoyance, toys are something I would have to clean up. Treats only get them fat and once you start they beg and I hate begging. Grooming is a thing of the past, I line them up in the back, rain or shine, and adjust the hose on full force. I aspire to installing a drive through window so not to be bothered with puppy people, swipe your credit card and move to the second window, please! My puppy pac includes a fresh card board box and a show bow.... Best of luck! lightening up the subject a bit!!! repost from a year and a half ago:) |
I agree with Mardelin. It's crazy to blame the breeder for those that choose to go to a BYB or puppymill or petstore and in some respect she's right some of these puppymills on the internet are charging crazy prices and I know that the petstores atleast in NJ (Shake A Paw when it was open in Toms River) charged around $2000 - $2500 for their Yorkies. We all know that petstores get their dogs from mills. If you find a bargain throug a BYB or Puppymill and choose to act on it don't blame the breeder blame yourself. Elaine |
well that would cut costs...... |
