Also, a small dog like a yorkie will most likely live 15-20 years. So if you pay say $2000 and your yorkie lives 20 years, that's $100 a year. Even if the dog only lived 10 years that's only $200 a year. That's not much for the love our furbabies provide in our life. Think how much it costs to have a human child...thousands and thousands and thousands. So a couple thousand for a furbaby isn't anything... they're worth so much more than that

I'll just say this....like Mary said, they are my puppies! If you can't afford my price your more than welcome to look elsewhere won't hurt my feelings a bit :)

I agree here. I think children should have pets no matter what their situation . As a kid we got our dog from rescue and although at that time there was not alot of extra money around my Dad always seemed to find it and I know they did have some free care in Chicago and vets that gave of their time. I think the people no matter what their means are that think ahead as to how they will manage it all will find a way. It's the ones that jump in, consider it a toy you can throw away when it's too much for you when the newness wears off that really bug me. . The real dog lover will find a way to take care of their pets. In fact I have a list if I can find it of co's to helf find free care and I will post it tomorrow when I find it. I know someone who was helped in 24 hrs. I'll put it on this thread.

I completely agree with you! I could never understand how someone could buy a dog, then once the "puppy cuteness" wears off, they get tired of it and don't want to be bothered. Next, you see the dog tied up outside half the time, no matter what the weather. The only thing you ever hear their owner say is "go lay down". Why do these people even have a dog???

The way I feel about my dog is like my child. There's never any guarantee that says you're going to have a healthy baby, no matter how careful you are. Or, your child might have health problems down the road. As a parent who loves their children, you will always find a way to take care of your child, no matter how much it costs. That's how I see my little Jake. If he would get hurt or sick, I would find a way to pay to get him the help he needed, just like I would for my own child. It shouldn't matter how much money you have, it's the fact that you KNOW you will do whatever it takes to save the dog you're buying.

Do people have babies and get tired of their "baby cuteness" and get rid of them or have them put to sleep? No, of course not (unless they are psycho, and I don't even want to think about that). But, it does happen with dogs, and I hate that!

I do have one question though. Why are females more expensive if the breeder specifies that she is not to be bred? I could see if the puppy came with unlimited registration, but if she comes with limited, then why is she more expensive? I'm sure there is a reason that I just don't know about, but I would love for someone to explain it to me. Thanks in advance.:)

Most people that want a small dog want a female. Or even if they really don't care, they'd pick a female if the price was the same. I can't remember who it was but a breeder on here said that when she first asks what the buyer wants it is almost always a female. Then once the buyer hears that females cost more, many of them change their mind and get a male. She said the price difference really makes them think if having a female is that important to them or not. I used to work at a dog boutique and so many people would come in with a boy dog and i wish I had a dollar for everytime someone said "I wish I had a girl." I also heard from breeders on here that males are more common in a litter than females on average.

I got my Yorkie Bayleigh shes 2 from someone that when the cuteness wore off they got another puppy and didnt want her, asked me if i wanted her and of course i said yes because i dont have 2 grand to but one i've wanted one for yrs...

I think it's because male tend to be more in litters.. But still they all will be pets so it shouldn't matter if its a girl or boy, right? even if that's the only female in 4litters (and you aren't keeping her), it shouldn't really matter because they all are going to be pets (considering your not trying to meet the demand for females and use that to your advantage for more money)

I can see both sides of this topic. When I was younger my dad bred pitbulls. Although he never had a problem with his females free whelping he spent an arm and a leg on the whole process. I can honestly say with the care and extras that he gave to his pregnant mammas and the babies he never turned a profit. It honestly came down to his breeding because he loved the breed. I know it's very costly for a good breeder to have a litter.

I can also see and identify with the frustration of the cost of a pup. It's honestly a topic that can go round and round.

What it does boil down to is what your willing and able to spend. If you don't like one breeders price then you can move on and attempt to find one in your price range.

I will say in all that I have seen and personally experienced a big price tag doesn't mean healthy because there are always unethical greedy people out there.

Thank you. For some reason, it never mattered to me. I was only looking for a pet, so it didn't matter, although I think little girls are adorable in their little dresses. When it came time for me to get my second yorkie, I decided on another boy after wanting a girl at first. Maybe my third will be a girl.;)

Classic example is Jeff Dane. How many right here on YT have paid thousands of dollars for a yorkie from him, and then it is very sick and doesn't make it?

Honestly, with the internet at everyone's disposal, there's no excuse for a person not to educate themselves before buying ANY puppy. I researched for a little over a year before I bought my first yorkie. Some of the people who end up complaining about the poor health of a puppy they just bought or what a horrible breeder someone is are the same people that didn't bother to do any research whatsoever. Within 15 minutes of starting my research, I already knew to stay away from Dane. The information is out there, it's just getting people to read it. You have to learn which sites to stay away from. It's not that difficult.

yorkies are worth a lot because of the demand of this popular breed... therefore ppl will pay a lot for it. there are many yorkies in shelters but not a lot.. i check my local humane society and there are never any yorkies there.. from what i learned, smaller dogs tend to get adopted the fastest.

i dont think its anyones business inquiring why a person pays as much as they do for something... i could ask the same thing about like cars, jewelry..etc.. but i dont because its not my business on what a person spends their money on. life is short, and if you really want something that you can afford then id say go for it!! :D

I'm not posting to debate prices of pups but it just made me think of everything that I do put into a litter.

BUT let me state...I choose to do this and wouldn't change a single thing and this is my passion and its something I totally LOVE to do , no matter how much it costs me.

I just had a littler 8 wks ago. So far...I've had pre vet exame of my female, xray charges, I've had a 1200.00 vet delivery bill, costs for dew claws and tails, costs for vaccines, costs for vet check ups, cost for vet checkup for shipping...etc, etc,etc,.. so I'm up there is $$$ so far with this litter plus there were only 2 babies. So yes, I've got ALOT into this 2 pup litter BUT I knew it going in and expected it. But its worth it to me :) Its not always about the money. I get to enjoy thiese little babies for 12 weeks, its so rewarding.

My very 1st litter ever, I had another large delivery bill, but there were 4 pups, and one was born with a cleft pallet. I bottle fed this baby for almost 3 months 24/7, while working a full time job, and saved her life. Would I change a thing? NOPE! I kept her and she's a thriving 1 yr old today :) (she's chi)

So my point??? Yes I know I'm not making money and I'm not going to over charge people to make a $ just because I've incurred costs for the choice I made to bring these little miracles into the world.

I have done tons of research and that is the answer. We have lots of excellent breeders her on YT and Rescue is the answer for lots of people too. The people who purchased from Jeff Dane could have purchased a pup from the best ethical breeder here if they would have taken their time and done their homework and for less money. It's a purchase that will be with you a lifetime (hopefully) so why not take some time in finding an ethical breeder that is doing it right.
