Yes I can afford it. That is why I made sure that i didn't spend beyond my means for my two dogs in the first place. Even before i got the dogs my neighbors dog broke his leg and they had to pay almost 2000 to get it fixed. I was aware of the cost them and now. This is also something I have discussed with my breeder weather it be the cost for a neuter or whatever. This is why I made sure i got the dogs I wanted at the price i could afford so that I could be able to have the money i could have wasted or in better words overplayed set away for an emergency. The way my mind works i over plan for everything, from the smallest things in my life to major purchases.

I'm in Wisconsin too. Eau Claire. There's only one pet store that sells puppies and the yorkies I've seen there are at least $1,500 to $2,000. And the few breeders I've found around me (no one on here! ) are not the type of places I would buy a dog from. I learned my lesson from Bella's back yard breeder.

Personally, I think $1500 and up is a little exhorberant for me. I understand the whole supply and demand and costs involved in breeding but I think my husband would shoot me if I paid that much for a dog.

Yes in a few years when i learn more about the kind of dog I would like to breed, and no I will prolly not give any away as I am planning to show as well.

This is why knowing WHY a breeder would charge so much over another breeder is an good question that I like to see answered. IF there is justification then that is great but if its a huge mark up then that is not to me.

i am so thankful i found the breeder that lacey came from, like i said its like an extended family for us. i cant wait until i get up to let her see lacey again
i really wish more people who really want yorkies knew about this site so they arent tempted to go to bad places to get a baby. i wish i would have known before i got lacey. although with her i got that instant in love feeling you cant pass up that i didnt get when i met other puppies. it is very important to know and feel you have given you babies to the best homes you can find. and when i made the comment about prices i was meaning to say that the dogs that are 5,000 or more i would expect to pay anywhere from 800-2000 for a yorkie as a pet. i think some get discouraged when they look online and see the prices of show quality yorkies and begin to wonder why the price diff. they dont know that there is a differance between show and pet, before i read as much as i have i thought the more the money the healthier my baby would be.

I"m glad that you were prepared when you bought your dog congrats! But emergencies always happen and not always have money on hand but we do find it somehow. It's nice although to see someone save for a nice healthy dog instead of buying a less than quality animal. But to each their own and I hope and pray everyone makes a good choice and all are happy!

She asked ME questions that I WANTED (and expected) her to ask - questions that shows ME that she truly does want her babies to go to a good home, not to just anyone with cash in their hands. Tatum also has Champion Bloodlines (EXCELLENT ones) - and no I do not show her nor will I be able to because she is too small, but I don't care. I wouldn't show her even if I COULD because that is my choice. I bought her knowing that I wasn't planning on showing her, and I still didn't mind paying what I did for her.

Not saying that I wouldn't pay less for one if I fell in love with it (actually, my Stedman was ALOT less than she was), but Tatum just so happened to be the baby I wanted and she came with a bigger price tag. Maybe some wouldn't pay it, but I did However, that's my business and no one elses. I think what each individual person does with his/her money is completely and entirely up to them.

Most Yorkies aren't cheap, and that's just the way it is. This is an expensive breed

I feel that a lot of people are taking advantage of the fact that " lap dogs" like the yorkie are so popular. It has became really ahrd to distingush the breeders that truely love the breed and their dogs to the breeders that only see money signs on their dogs. I only have 1 yorkie and my husband bought it for me from his aunt who is a responsible breeder. I know he didn't pay no where near the thousands of dollars people are asking for now, but I wouldnt mind paying that. If I knew my puppy came from a warm loving home, where the breeder took all the proper precautions, vet check, shots, mother is healthy before pregnancy occurs. People who truly love dogs invest more than money into them, and I personally want to get the best dog possible so I know he will be with me for a very long time. Not to mention why people turn to this breed they have expectations like tempermnet, apperance. If none of these are what is standard to the breed then you wont expirinece a true yorkie, just a sad unhealthy, inbred dog.

my dogs werent less quality as many will see when i finally get to attend a YT meet up. I just got lucky to cath a great breeder who didnt charge me an arm and a leg for a great quality dog. Just because u dont spend a large amount of money doesnt necesarily mean that your paying for a quality dog. so many people who come here have saved and lost out big time....

Like Mary said, I breed for myself first and then if I have a pet quality puppy in the litter and after careful screening only then I do place a puppy into a pet home. You have to pass everything that I believe in in order to have one of mine. That is just how it's gonna be...they are mine and if you don't cut it then they stay mine...but in reality they will always be a part of my household even tho they might not physically live with me

Yorkie rescues are a great thing. I have nothing against them. Do you know how hard it is to adopt from some of them though? You have to meet a ton of criteria and usually half of it is stupid. I have heard that shelters and rescues have turned people away for no good reason. So if I don't get a Yorkie from a shelter my other choice is a reputable breeder. No reputable breeder will purposely breed off-standard dogs. That would go against what they believe because if their dogs aren't standard, they haven't bred for the betterment of the breed.

My Yorkie is laying on my lap right now. She is the best doggie ever. She is, however, way off standard. It is not a big deal to me (although I think all Yorkies should meet the standard to be bred and hopefully produce standard dogs). Ellie cost $650. There is one small problem though. Ellie seems to be having health problems. The most expensive one may have been preventable if the breeder would have laid out the money to test her dogs for certain things to begin with. Sure I got a cheap dog, but I am paying it in vet bills and stress now.

I hear you on this! I once tried to adopt a siamese cat or kitten, and no one accepted me because I had a female dog intact. Even though I stated on the paperwork she was a show dog, they still denied me. All I wanted was a siamese cat or kitten. And because I love dogs and show some, I get knocked off the list...

I had to laugh at this phrase....not laughing at you.....but, are you sure you have a Yorkie.....all mine are wild indians, not a lap dog in the group. After all they are Terriers first. Or should I say Yorkshire Terriorists

My Vet when sending people to me always tells them "It'll probably be easier to find a cure for cancer than it would be to get a dog from Mary, but that is why I recommend her"
