| Could use some advice on new dog Hi all, I just adopted a 3 y.o rescue yorkie two days ago (he was picked up off the street and has been in a foster home for 1 month). He's also my second dog. Everything is going smoothly considering what I'm up against, but I do have a couple of things I need help with. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on any of the following: 1) My first dog and my new adoptee are super jealous of each other when it comes to me, how do I get them both to stop being so green? Will it go away? Luckily they are not aggressive about it to each other but it makes things harder on me. 2)My new dog, Joey, is super clingy, which I assume is a rescue dog trait, but how do I help him to feel more secure and not so needy? 3) Joey is really good considering what he's been through, but he barks to get my attention, when he's jealous, and whenever he is super excited. So far, I ignore him until he stops barking, but he's a determined little guy. Any suggestions on how to teach him its not necessary to bark incessantly? 4) Joey broke out into hives the day after I got him when we woke up in the morning. He hadnt eaten anything or been exposed to anything new in about 6 hours. I know that people can get hives from stress, can dogs too? I gave him half of a children's Benedryl and it went away, but is this something yorkies can be prone too? Thanks so much for any input |

| Congratulations on your new dog. I'm going through the same thing as you, but it's the dog I already has is being aggressive and jealous. I'm at my wits end as to what to do. I'm having her spayed to see if she calms down some. If not I'll have to rehome her, and that will make me very sad.

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | First off...GOOD FOR YOU ADOPTING A RESCUE!!! The two dogs should learn to be friends soon. The new dog Joey is of course scared and you are the one person he feels he knows so he IS going to be clingy. He was gain confidence as he is in your home longer. Barking is the dogs way of talking to you. When I brought home my Lacie, she had been raised in a kennel for 5 months and she barked at EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. I kept telling her it was ok and she became customed to the noises and people around her. I try to socialize her as much as possible to help her understand her new BIG world. you might try going out on short trips to new places so Joey can become confident that every thing is alright. About the hives it may be from stress, but I would ask your vet to be sure. Good luck with your new guy as well as your first love.
