| ![]() If you use the word "detrimental" in correct terms..meaning damage or harm to the "coat", then I agree, it does damage or harm the long coat to cut off..common sense, the long hair is GONE..but it does not damage or harm the dog itself. |

| ![]() I love the puppy cut especially on the boys. Penny got it for her first cut, but now I'm letting her hair grow. We'll see how long that works. LOL

| ![]() First off I would shave the ears and then try taping them for a day and see where you are at. There in no harm in trying. Good luck.

| ![]() I very much perfer the long coat on yorkies too. Lacy's hair grows so incredibly slow..I never cut it, but at three years old it's not even what I would consider medium length yet...it frustrates me. I just started giving her fish oil so I'm hoping just maybe it'll start growing faster.. I will continue to keep letting it grow though because I want it to get long. I will always keep my yorkies' hair long. I just LOVE the full coated look. I worked at a dog boutique/grooming salon until I started vet school, and we had a few dogs that would come in with long hair and get it all cut off. It made me so sad... The only yorkie that I've prefered the puppy cut look on is my best friend's yorkie because he has super wavy, almost curly hair and it just poofs when it gets long and it makes him look very unkept...so short hair looks so much better on him. But on yorkies that have straight hair, the long coat looks better to me. It's just so gorgeous!

| ![]() I like the long hair, but my girls and one of my boys have the cotton coat that gets matted so easy, so for me having the puppy cut keeps them nice and clean looking and they like it , I think ![]() ![]()

| ![]() I love love love the long Yorkie coats. Both my Yorkies had very long coats and they looked beautiful in them, No tangles or any thing. The only problem I had was the male peeing down his leg and My females hair was so long it seemed to weigh her head down at times and not to mention it always layed in her food and water dishs while she ate. She also would rub her head so much at night I thought it must get so sore from being up every day. So those are the reasons I cut my babys hair and them seem to be much happyer with the short hair. and I see so many babys with short hair and I think they look adorable. So I agree and disagree. I guess I love it both ways. Heres a picture with my two with long hair and one with it very short. |

| ![]() I am all about the puppy cut for Chip, he is a typical rambunctious boy. He runs into woodsy brambles, and wrestles with other dogs so long hair would not be practical for me. Although I do like to have some feathering on his tail, but he really hates it being brushed so I can only imagine how he would be if his whole body was long. Having long hair doesn't neccessarily mean you are more devoted to your dog, its just a personal preference. |

| ![]() We keep our guys in puppy cuts and we think they are absolutely adorable. They too, run under the bushes, wrestle, roll and tumble. I can't imagine what they would look like with long hair. Right now the trees in our back yard are shedding their leaves - they bring in enough leaves now with puppy cuts. I can't imagine what a long coat would look like full of leaves!!! ![]() Don't get me wrong, I think a Yorkie in a full coat is beautiful - but it just isn't practical for us.

| ![]() I think you're going to get lots of responses favoring both cuts!! I love the puppy cut because you can see their cute little body shapes and I love the long hair, well, because they look beautiful that way too!!! I too think, just like with us "humanoids" the face hair and its cut and how well it looks, depends on the shape of the Yorkie head, and snout. But in the end, it is all about what works for you. Unless you knick them with the scissors (doh) I don't think a short cut would be detrimental LOL.

| ![]() I LOVE the look of the full coat, but we just can't have it. Both of my girls sport the puppy cut year round. It's hot here in Florida and they HATE being brushed, so the puppy cut is the only way to keep them and me happy. I think you're trying to start something here, and if that's the case, Heaven help you.

| ![]() I love the puppy cut. I do like the show cut but it is usually not my preference. Ellie has a mixture of cottony and silky hair. It is wavy and doesn't part down the middle. I brush her less than three times a year (yes a year) and she rarely gets matts. ![]()

| ![]() I prefer the puppy cut over the long hair, but like others said it depends on the personality of the dog and the needs of the owner. I don't think one is better than the other!
