| New STUBORNE puppy who hates walking and.. Hi Everyone; I need HELP; I have a new puppy he is my "Shaq" son, and he is 4 months old, a month ago he got all his shuts and i started taking him out for walks with Shaq, he refuses to walk, he hates anything that is attached to his body, i have already bought 3 collars, 2 of them are harness type, and he won't walk, i have to drag him,or carry him on my hands while Shaq does his business, he will only walk back home (yes he knows when we are heading back home). it's now getting colder and i have been trying 4 different jackets, he refuses to move once i get the jackets on him. help..what do i do? Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | First of all Welcome to YT! The best thing to do is be persistant you have to just keep putting the jacket and the harness on him eventually he will get used to it as far as walking try doing it in the house for awhile each day and give him treats when you put the clothing/harness on and when he takes a step in them. hope this helps! LOL sorry i thought it said you had 2 posts not 22 lol

| I remember having the same problem with Maddie when she was a pup, and not used to having something attached to her. She'd put on those front brakes and refuse to budge! LOL You should be using a harness on your yorkie, as collars can put pressure on their tracheas and cause trachea collapse. Try practicing in the house. Attach the leash to his harness and then use treats to get him to come to you. He just needs to get used to it and then he'll be loving the walks you take him on. As for jackets...give him a treat once you have it on...practice in the house and let him wear it a while now and then and he'll eventually get used to it. Maybe practice with a t-shirt to start with and once he's used to that, try the jacket. Good luck! Congrats on your baby!

| I start mine out by putting the harness on in the house and letting them walk around with it on for a couple of hours each day. Then when they're use to that I'll attach the leash, and repeat letting them walk around for a few hours each day. Once they're use to that we go for walks in the front yard where they basically lead and I follow. Next step is going for walks. It's always worked for me.
