| spaying-what to expect? Miss Sassy Katelyn Grandville will be getting spayed this friday. I am to drop her off at 8 AM with the vet. What should I expect? I am assuming she will come home sometime that day? How often are there complications with dogs as young as 5 almost 6 months if any? What will the Vet's instructions to me be? How much will she sleep after the surgery? Will she be allowed to potty outside as usual? What special care will I have to give the surgical area? She will be given a three day pain med after the surgery. What should I know about that? Any input would be grand! | This may be a little different... but my Ollie was nuetered on Monday. I found out the very lastest i could drop him off was 9:30 so i took him for a long walk and got him there at 9:29!!! Oh and i gave him a bath the night before because i was told no bathing for 2 whole weeks!!! Ollie was so happy to be there and was greeting and licking everyone in sight which made me feel terribly guilty and i was in tears after i left him. I asked about what time his surgery would be and if i could call and check on him which i did and was told all went well. I could either pick him up between 5 and 6 or 6 and 7--- i was there at 5:05. He was happy to see me but shaking and very loopy. I was told he could not eat that night but regular diet the next day. I held him for about two hours rubbing his little tummy....all he wanted to do was sleep. He usually sleeps in my bed but i kept him in his crate next to my bed the first and second night. He had the litttle plastic neck thingy on so as not to lick and chew at his stitches but i found that he had difficulty eating and drinking and walking with out dragging it the next day ---so i bought him a little denim diaper that velcors and it is just enough to keep him from getting to the stitches. The day after surgery he had little bursts of energy but then would sleep bunches. I made him a little boiled chicken for a special treat!!!! He had no problems going outside to potty. Today is three days after and he is back to his wild self..... The vet told us no climbing stairs or jumping and he should be confined indoors for 12 whole days!!! Today, on this third day, i am finding this to be impossible torture for him since he wants to run and play but we are trying to take it easy. He gets his stitches out in 10 -14 days. Oh and also ask about any baby teeth that may need pulled while she is under. |

| Hummmm Can she go out side to pee and poo if she is confined to inside for 2 weeks? I can't do the poop and Pee thing in the house, even with the pads it kills me. I am a neat freak and can't stand anything that will leave a linger in the house. OMG what have we gotten our poor puppy into. The collar is not going to fly. We are going to have to tough it out. My birds couldn't stand the collar and this one can't stand his reg harness / collar. Oh me oh my! |

| Ollie has had no problems going outside to potty at all. I believe the vet means by "confine indoors for 12 days" to not leave the little one outside for hours like some do with bigger dogs....(it was just a checked off box on a form!) The denim washable diaper works great at safe guarding those stitches-- i take it off before i take him outside and it is very easy to put back on. He does try to rub up against things to maybe get it off of him.... The vet also told us no food after midnight the night before surgery or that morning. I felt so sad for him the first night and day after --but you will be amazed how fast she will recover and be back to normal-- i know i was! Just baby her bunches!!! |

| She'll probably be very groggy, but should be fine in no time. Just watch for her getting at the stitches. I've never had a problem with spaying or neutering mine so far.
