As you can see everyone genuinely loves yorkies So hopefully you will feel at home here and know there's always someone on YT that will understand, feel your pain , and give advice. |

| Did you take her to the vet yet???...is not can't your wife take her while she is at home?...the first few weeks are crucial to their healtyh and they shouldn't even be allowed to walk outside (grass, ground ANYWHERE)..till their shots are done..I hope all is well

| I'm sorry but EVERYONE here loves their yorkies and everyone elses...the fact that you found ticks on this puppy and you haven't taken her to the vet yet is not a good sign....she is VERY YOUNG and you need to figure out a plan where you would go in case of an emergency..since you don't seem to know of any vets that are open past 5pm

| Well today my wife took Mia to the vet. The vet said Mia is in good health. She got her 1st set of shots. The vet also gave us a pill called Interceptor I belive its for heart worms. Mia already took it. The vet didnt give nothing for the ticks cuz he said shes still to young to give her anything. The vet also gave us a different type of puppy food. I dont know the name of it cuz I didnt go to the vet so as soon as I find out ill post it up. Do the puppies get extra sleepy after there shots? Mia is here at my 2nd job with me and she has been slepping most of the time. Once again I would like to thank you all for your help!!! |

| Science Diet The food he gave us is Science Diet. I did a search on it and there is over 100 posts on it but none that I have read had any solid info on the puppy food. Is this a good type of dog food? How many of you feed your dogs Science diet? I read that vets only recommend it cuz they get kick backs from the company that makes Science Diet, is this true? |

| Yes...that is what I hear as well...there is a whole post on food recommendation in the food and diet section (you can do the seacrh)...The whole dog food journal posts the best and no good dog foods...I feed Innova puppy..BUT also on the GOOD food list are Solid gold, Wellness, Canidae, Natural Balance (those are also really good..at least the rolls I have personal experience with), Nutro, Innova etc..., there are a few others..BUT basically you want to stay away from by-products and fillers and make sure the first 4 ingredients are have a form of meat (chicken, turkey..etc...) in there (makes up the most of the food)

PS. did the vet remove the ticks for you? I would suggest you get some gentle flea and tick shampoo to bathe her in until she is old enough to have a treatment such as Frontline. I would also suggest you spray the carpets and furnature in your home with Ortho to kill any flea or tick eggs that may be living there...otherwise she may just get them back again. Here is a picture of what Ortho looks like and you can get it at Walmart. Just make sure you read the label and that it says safe for pets...also keep the baby out of the room for about an hr. after spraying. Last edited by Sydney'sMom; 06-27-2005 at 06:41 AM. | |
