When he was "shaking violently" was it "shaking like he is cold" or was it shaking like a seizure where it is more jerky and the eyes roll back in the head and they fall over and all?

I have heard that too much nutrical can be bad too and can actually bring on a hypoglycemia attack. I don't mean to be conusing and I am not a vet but my first breeder told me this.

The syringe feeding is the way to go in my opinion if he hasn't eaten in 4 hours. Mix baby rice cereal with pedialyte and corn starch until it is like soft oatmeal and give him 3 syringe fulls (3 ccs) every 3-4 hours along with pedialyte to keep him hydrated.

It is always so scary when these puppies act strangely and we don't know what to do and the vet is no help.

I just wanted to say that I agree with you Kim on too much nutrical can't be good either. People can be hypoglycemic too but they can also be hypERglycemic as well. Neither one can be a good thing. Let's hope he will be back to normal very soon. Maybe a good night's rest will do him a lot of good and he'll be chipper in the morning. Please post an update tomorrow if not sooner. Maybe you can check on him in the middle of the night too.

I am sorry about that vet. I have had some bad experiences too. I hope all goes well tommorrow.
I swear some vets only want your money. I also fell like they tell you they need more work done than they really do. I took my dog to the emergencey vet because she was having seizures on a sunday- it was quite obvius that it was hypoglycemic siezures but they wanted to run all these test to be sure. After all that extensive testing guess what they found out????? She was having a hypoglycemic siezure!!!!!! And all the test were normal. It cost me $750. BS! They also said she had to stay overnight even thought she was eating on her own and doing just fine. Well of course that was conviently like a flat $150 fee. They shaved her on the right side of the body(trying to find a place to do an IV)and put this IV in her and when I picked her up the next day and paid the huge ass bill she still had this HUGE IV hanging from her and her entire neck was bandage from it and they said I needed to go take her to my regular vet to have all that removed and checked out anbd needed all this crap done. Like what did I just pay them to do? So I went to my reg vet and they said she was fine, and took at the IV- which they had to do surgecically and she had glue all over her it was horrible. So she was like bald on the right side of her body for quite sometime. Her coat still looks wierd. All for Hypoglycemia. I know its serious but I think they went a bit overboard and purposely charged me WAY more than it shoudl have been. Wow, I didnt meant to post a whole story. I just had to vent and the memories all came back . I am still poor because of that day.......

I agree about the nutrical. Back when we had the hypoglycemia problem I kept telling the vet that I give my dog nutrical several times a day as a treat. She said it is only really neccassary if your dog IS NOT eating. Too much can reverse the hypoglycemia -or she said something like that.

I'm so sorry to hear that and I completely feel your pain. I got lucky that it wasn't that much. And of course, I wouldn't have left him in that place to save my life! I'm glad to hear your baby is doing better too!

He is passed out. I think he's kinda weak right now, he's barely responding to his name when I call it, but he's breathing normal. I'm going to try and feed him right now and see how that goes.

brosie1823, I'm so sorry about what you're going through. I know it's a scary situation...My yorkie was very hypoglycemic when he was a pup and he had seizures and at first we didn't even know he was having them because they didn't look like seizures. He would just act weird. The vet told me that a seizure didn't even have to include shaking...It could just simply be him staring into space. Anyway, it sounds like you've got things under control, at least until morning...You're doing all the right things, feeding him even if he doesn't want it and keeping him as hydrated as possible.
