| Mom eating puppy food Help - She keeps jumping into xpen to eat the puppy food. She jumps from couch into xpen I'm worried she's going to hurt puppies when she jumps in. I've taken her out 3 times since last night. I put her in @ 5:30 am and she nurses pups. She doesn't want to feed anymore after that so I've been giving them puppy kibble moistened with puppy formula. But last night she started barking because she wanted to go in - we let her in and she goes straight to puppy food and tries to eat it she even growls if pups try to go near food. Any suggestions? Thanks

| How old are the puppies? Are they eating much of the food you leave for them? Maybe just leave it in there for a short period of time and then remove it before the mom can get at it?

| I would suggest you put her in another room until you feel the pups have had enough food at that time and then bring her back out! She might be jealous or may just really like how the food taste with the formula in it! Congrats on the new babies and hope you find a solution!

| She's still hormonal and her first rule is "all food is her food". Also, it could be part of the instinct thing that they don't want anything around the puppies that would attract a predator. We go through that every time we have puppies. Try and keep her occupied while you're feeding them. If all she's doing is growling, that's ok but if she's nipping at them then keep her away while they're eating. Aren't they fun when they are learning to eat? They put their whole bodies into it.
