Our breeder gave us nutrical (a tube of goo, molasas and vitamins) We fed it to each baby every day, just squeeze 1/2 " or so on your finger, they love it. We kept down dry food and water all the time. They even like treats that little, just to gnaw on - the hard ones. Ours also came from the breeder with the food they had been eating, good to keep them on the same food. They got diarrhea after about 2 days. I bought a gallon of water which lasts for about a month. It seemed to help. Goat's milk is sold in the PETS part of the grocery store it is called puppy replacement milk and stuff like that. I would not use cow milk. You care a lot about your baby, so I know you will do just fine, as someone else stated, they can become hypoglycemic very quickly, be careful that he is not lethargic. |
A long time ago, in a land far away :p ...... I was told by a vet that for very young animal babies who couldn't handle dry food well, to boil some rice and drain the water off, add some Karo (this was pre-nutrical, people) and mix with the dry food. The rice water helps prevent the stool from getting too soft ( I guess this happens a lot when puppies go to new homes and water and environment change) and the Karo keeps the sugar level up. Lida gets 4 bowls a day plus we leave out Purina Puppy Kibbles and Bits, it has soft and tiny hard pieces in it and Lida loves to grab a bite now and then. When we got our chi, she was only 7 weeks and this is what we fed her, never had a bit of trouble. Lida is happy and healthy on her diet as well. Good luck with that little one, you two will do just fine. Windy and Lida Rose |

This is very good info - in fact all of the info on this thread has been great. Seriously, I needed all the advice cause I feel like it's such a baby. |
I got Minnie @ 6 weeks,i tried to put him in a little kennel the first night, she wasnt having that, she cried, she was away from her brothers,so i took her to bed with me,& thats where shes been ever since,we had a Cocker Spaniel @ that time too,so Minnie always cuddled wityh Lucky :p I babied Minnie wrapped her up in a little blanket&* told my kids they had to be quiet, that was a mistake on my part as now she is 22mths old & doesnt like noise @ all.......... I got Scamp @ 7 weeks old,he is all boy lol...... he settled in perfectly.......lots of TLC is all thats needed always, sweettalking too..l=kisses & hugs a ton a day :animal-sm :aimeeyork |
Candy4me I just seen pictures of your little one and I have 2 words "So Cute!" How much did your puppy weight at birth? It is so tiny. I would sneak this little one to work! :D |

I always joke that I'm going to bring Tucker into work & keep him in my desk drawer like Gizmo in Gremlins 2. Ok, per my other post - I am a loser. Not only am I making reference to Gremlins, but Gremlins 2?! I really need to get a life... |

When Roxy was really, really sick we ended up giving her baby food (she liked chicken and veal) and rice baby cereal along with her nutri cal. The rice really helps with their poops (if you can get them to eat it!)... but be careful with the nutri cal. It can loosen up their poop- Karo is a better alternative, or so says my vet... But try getting a pup to take karo when they've tasted nutri cal... :yelrotflm good luck! My baby is back to eating boiled chicken (no skin) mixed with baby food and supplemented with a/d and science diet canned foods. She hates her dry kibble still... |

The reason I asked was because my new puppy was 60 grams at birth and I was wondering if my puppy would be small like yours. I just can't get over how cute your puppy is! |
Thank goodness...it's my 7th day with Cujo and he's finally eating! He was eating just a tiny bite of food a day....but, I took everyone's advice and fed him different things to tempt him.... turns out the best thing to give him was puppy milk from Petco (Esbilac - sp?), and dry kibble (Royal Cannin baby kibble for small breeds) with a teaspoon of Turkey Gerber baby food mixed with kibble - he ate the whole dish.....{{{{{WHEW!}}}}} :happyboun Lord, I was worried him bein' such a baby and all. Hopefully he will start gaining weight cause he lost an ounce since I brought him home last Sunday :( cross your fingers for us :D |
